  1. 6. Morphology and biochemistry of the tympanic membrane in relation to retraction pathology

    Författare :Johan Knutsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Tympanic membrane; retraction pathology; secretory otitis media; cholesteatoma; pars tensa; lamina propria; keratinizing epithelium; collagen type; progenitor cells; stem cells; immunohistochemistry; electron microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Otitis media is very common during childhood and may predispose for tympanic membrane (TM) pathology later in life. Therefore, it is important to investigate the possible changes in TMs subjected to otitis media. There is evidence of a relationship between previous otitis media and TM retraction disease. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Healing of tympanic membrane perforations : an experimental study

    Författare :Anisur Rahman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Embryonic stem cells; Healing; Immunosuppressive; Laser; Mesenchymal stem cells; Moiré interferometry; Myringotomy; Perforation; Tympanic membrane;

    Sammanfattning : Most acute tympanic membrane perforations heal spontaneously without any residual complication, whereas a fraction transforms into a chronic perforation. The current treatment of a chronic perforation is surgical repair, which is a costly, time consuming and uncomfortable procedure particularly for the pediatric patients. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Macrophages in Crohn's Disease: lnnate immune cellular and molecular mechanisms driving intestinal inflammation and fibrosis

    Författare :Frida Gorreja; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; macrophages; inflammatory macrophages; tissue-resident macrophages; efferocytosis; innate immunity; myeloid cells; fibroblasts; fibrosis; inflammasomes; Crohn´s disease; inflammatory bowel diseases; digestive diseases; mucosa immunology; intestinal immunity; intestinal inflammation; serum systemic inflammation; microbiota; metabolites;

    Sammanfattning : Macrophages and their interactions with the lamina propria and luminal microenvi-ronment are crucial in the pathogenesis of Crohn´s disease (CD), a chronic inflamma-tory disease with a strong inflammatory innate immune involvement. Therefore, in-terpreting macrophage activity in the intestinal microenvironment may identify treatment targets beneficial for at least a subgroup of patients. LÄS MER

  4. 9. EFFECTOR T CELL HOMING TO THE SMALL INTESTINAL MUCOSA

    Författare :Hanna Stenstad; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Immunologi; Immunology; serology; homing; intestine; GALT; chemokine receptor; lymphocyte; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa, including the intestinal epithelium and underlying lamina propria (LP), contains a large number of effector/memory T cells that are thought to play a central role in the generation and maintenance of mucosal immune responses and in maintaining mucosal integrity. The work in this thesis investigates the mechanisms regulating effector T cell recruitment to the small intestinal mucosa focusing on the role of chemokine receptors in this process. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Coeliac disease : Clinical and immunological aspects

    Författare :Tony Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Coeliac disease; cytokines; TGF-beta; tissue transglutaminase; IL-4; IFN-gamma; TNF-alpha; ELISPOT; anti-endomysiumantibodies; anti-gliadin antibodies; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : A better immunological definition of coeliac disease and highly discriminatory serum markers are needed to identify children with early mucosal lesions and for rapid follow-up and a better knowledge of antigen reactivity and cytokine production will be needed to clarify the pathogenic mechanisms.The numbers of circulating IgAanti-gliadin antibody-producing (IgAAGA SFC) cells were increased in patients with untreated coeliac disease compared to controls and treated coeliac disease patients.
