  1. 11. Localized Prostate Cancer : Results From a Randomized Clinical Trial

    Författare :Anna Bill-Axelson; Lars Holmberg; Bo Johan Norlén; Peter Wiklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; prostate cancer; localized; randomized; biopsies; interviews; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were to• explore whether radical prostatectomy is beneficial compared with watchful waiting in survival and disease progression• find possible effect modifiers• evaluate a protocol of multiple biopsies and investigate if men with previous benign prostate biopsies are a group at risk for later prostate cancer• inquire into patients’ and clinicians’ experiences of randomization in order to find out what made this study possible to conduct, and thereby contribute to improve randomization in the futureThe background material was a large randomized clinical trial, the Scandinavian Prostatic Cancer Group Study Number 4, or SPCG-4, which was open for inclusion from February 1989 through December 1999. It comprised 695 men in Sweden, Finland and Iceland who had localized prostate cancer and were randomized to either radical prostatectomy or watchful waiting. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Who receives bank loans? A study of lending officers' assessments of loans to growing small and medium-sized enterprises

    Författare :Volker Bruns; Johan Wiklund; Hans Landström; Dean Shepherd; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores factors that influence lending officers' assessments of credit requests from growing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Building on asymmetric information theory, factors identified in previous research are grouped into the theoretical categories of risk-assessment, risk-alignment, and risk-shifting. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Heart and lung function - in health and disease : methodological studies in clinical physiology

    Författare :Sofia Erelund; Nina Sundström; Urban Wiklund; Sandra Arvidsson; Bengt Johansson; Carl-Johan Carlhäll; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; clinical physiology; reference materials; ECG; dynamic spirometry; HRV; rheumatoid arthritis; cardiovascular disease; ischemic heart disease; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The human heart and lungs constitute an intricate and dynamic system. Various clinical physiological examinations can be used to evaluate cardio-pulmonary function and identify abnormalities. Thus, it is important to understand how normal physiology presents, to be able to identify pathological findings. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Contact fatigue and crack propagation studies of sintered PM steel

    Författare :Anders Holmberg; Åsa Kassman Rudolphi; Urban Wiklund; Johan Ahlström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tribology; PM steel; Fatigue; Crack Initiation; Crack Propagation; Material Analysis; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Sammanfattning : Gears made of PM steel are of interest for the automotive industry because from the press/sinter route, complex geometries can be produced to near net shape with only a few processing steps while keeping the material and energy usage at a minimum. However, the PM steels of today have significant performance limitations caused by the inherent porosity which impairs the mechanical properties by acting as stress raisers in the material. LÄS MER
