  1. 1. Regulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase - Consequences in experimental models of bladder disease

    Författare :Rebecka Johansson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; smooth muscle-myosin heavy chain; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; farmakognosi; farmaci; actin; BDNF; Rho; aminoguanidine; TNF-alpha; IL-1beta; hypertrophy; differentiation; smooth muscle; bladder; nitric oxide; inducible nitric oxide synthase; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression is associated with various pathophysiological conditions in the lower urinary tract. The aims of this thesis have been to investigate the regulation of iNOS in bladder smooth muscle cells and the consequences on neuromuscular regulation, cell growth and differentiation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nitric oxide production by the intestinal mucosa during hypoperfusion

    Författare :Johan Snygg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; intestinal epithelium; hemorrhagic shock; cardiac tamponade; septic shock; lower body negative pressure; splanchnic circulation; substrate; laser Doppler;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is based on the concept that gastrointestinal blood hypoperfusion is a common phenomenon associated with critical illness. Furthermore, the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is proposed to be initiated by gastrointestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction, allowing intestinal luminal contents to penetrate into the tissue and activate a systemic inflammatory response. 3. 3. Regulation of Insulin Secretion in Relation to Nitric Oxide, Carbon Monoxide and Acid alpha-Glucoside Hydrolase Activities

    Författare :Henrik Mosén; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; diabetology; Endocrinology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; GK rat; insulin secretion; carbon monoxide; acid alpha-glucoside hydrolases; nitric oxide; heme oxygenase; isoforms of nitric oxide synthase; diabetologi; sekretion;

    Sammanfattning : The main stimulus for insulin secretion is elevated blood glucose levels. In this thesis the aim was to study less well-known systems involved in the complex regulation of glucose-stimulated insulin release, emphasizing the role of the lysosomal/vacuolar system and the associated glycogenolytic acid alpha-glucoside hydrolases, but also the HO-CO and NOS-NO systems. 4. 4. Nitric oxide in brain contusion

    Författare :Caroline Gahm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Apoptosis; Colchicine; Dexamethasone; eNOS; human; immunohistochemistry; iNOS; L-NAME; L-NIL; neuronal degeneration; Nimodipine; nitric oxide; NO; nNOS; rat; SPBN; Tirilazad Mesylate; traumatic brain injury;

    Sammanfattning : Trauma to the brain is a leading cause of death and disability. The primary injury initiates a cascade of biochemical reactions in the brain that causes further neuronal damage, a process referred to as secondary brain injury. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On the role of nitric oxide in uterine secretion

    Författare :Birgitta Mörlin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Autonomic nerves; endometrial and cervical secretion; nitric oxide; guineapig.;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Uterine secretion is important in many different aspects of reproduction e.g. sperm transport and survival, fertilization, nourishment of the ovum and implantation. A cholinergic autonomic nervous secretory innervation has been established and modulation of the secretion by prostaglandins and NSAID drugs has been postulated. LÄS MER
