  1. 11. Experimental studies on the role of the gastrointestinal microflora in postsurgical adhesion formation

    Författare :Claes Bothin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adhesions; adhesion formation; germfree; microflora;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Adhesions occurring after any kind of surgery is a common phenomenon and cause a great deal of morbidity and mortality, incurring a considerable burden on health care systems. Adhesions are especially prominent after lower abdominal and gynecological procedures (60-90 % of patients after one operation) causing infertility, pain syndromes and bowel obstruction as well as complicating subsequent surgery. 2. 12. Gastric electrical stimulation. Studies in patients with intractable nausea and vomiting

    Författare :Stina Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :gastric electrical stimulation; gastroparesis; gastroscopy; vomiting; gastric accommodation; drinking test; dyspepsia;

    Sammanfattning : The most severe cases of gastroparesis are refractory to drugs. In the 1990s gastric electrical stimulation (GES) was introduced for treatment of nausea and vomiting in patients with diabetic and idiopathic gastroparesis. The electrodes and neurostimulator are usually placed with laparoscopy. LÄS MER

  3. 13. PREVENTION OF POSTSURGICAL ABDOMINAL ADHESIONS BY POLYPEPTIDES

    Författare :Laszlo Nehéz; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; poly-L-glutamate; anastomotic healing; peritoneum; adhesion; prevention; poly-L-lysine; traumatologi; Kirurgi; ortopedi; polypeptides; surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Peritoneal adhesions develop after almost all abdominal surgical interventions and represent an important cause of postoperative intestinal obstruction, abdominal discomfort and infertility. Postoperative adhesions can potentially be reduced by using different antiadhesive agents. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Laparoscopic or Open Antireflux Surgery - A Comparative Study with Special Reference to the Patient´s Perspective

    Författare :Gunilla Nilsson; Folke Johnsson; Bengt Hallerbäck; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antireflux surgery; fundoplication; RCT; laparoscopy versus open surgery; subjective outcomes; objective outcomes; narratives; short-term follow-up; long-term follow-up; Surgery; Kirurgi; Health Informatics; Hälsoinformatik; Omvårdnad; Nursing; Gastro-enterology; Gastroenterologi; traumatology; orthopaedics; Surgery; long-term follow-up; short-term follow-up; narratives; objective outcomes; subjective outcomes; laparoscopy versus open surgery; RCT; Antireflux surgery; fundoplication; Kirurgi; traumatologi; ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to compare the effects of laparoscopic versus open antireflux surgery in a randomized clinical trial focusing the patients' subjective and objective outcome postoperatively, from a short-term and a long-term perspective. A further aim was to describe GORD patients' experiences of illness and surgical treatment and if possible to find striking characteristics relating to laparoscopic or open surgery. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Molecular studies on Hirschsprung disease and 'Ondine's curse'

    Författare :Pär-Johan Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hirschsprung disease; Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome; neurocristopathy; mutation analysis; RET; CDNF; EDNRB; EDN-3; EDN-I;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on molecular studies of two diseases that arise from dysfunction of, defective migration or inappropriate apoptosis of neural crest derived cells: Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) and "Ondine's curse" (congenital central hypoventilation syndrome, CCHS). The neural crest (NC) is a condensation of pluripotent cells of ectodermal origin. LÄS MER
