21. Identification of abnormally expressed genes in skeletal muscle contributing to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : The metabolic defects of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes can result from changes in gene expression and protein functions due to genetic and environmental influences. The aim of this study was to identify abnormally expressed genes associated with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, and further to test whether possible defects are inherited or acquired. LÄS MER
22. Health locus of control, depressive symptoms, and insulin resistance. Implications for treatment and prevention in general population and primary care
Sammanfattning : The disease burden of type 2 diabetes and depression is large and challenging for healthcare systems. Preventive interventions require resources and better knowledge concerning early stages in the development of these diseases. LÄS MER
23. Colorectal cancer and surgery : Insights into insulin resistance and inflammatory markers
Sammanfattning : The art of surgery has progressively extended from the realm of anatomy to encompass physiology and beyond, in search of further refinement and optimal recovery. Integral to this is a deeper understanding of the body’s essential metabolic and inflammatory responses to surgical trauma. LÄS MER
24. The sites and mechanisms of postoperative insulin resistance
Sammanfattning : In Sweden with nine million inhabitants, 450,000 operations (outpatients excluded) are performed every year resulting in 2,250,000 treatment days in hospital. Surgical operations are part of the treatment for 44% of all patients admitted to hospital care occupying 24% of all hospital beds. LÄS MER
25. Left ventricular hypertrophy and the insulin resistance syndrome
Sammanfattning : Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and the insulin resistance syndrome are common conditions associated with a markedly increased cardiovascular risk. In a fairly large prospective longitudinal study of men from the general population, we found that an unfavorable serum fatty acid profile and components of the insulin resistance syndrome such as dyslipidemia, obesity and hypertension at age 50 predicted the prevalence of LVH at age 70.
