21. Functional morphology of mammalian rhinariumn skin
Sammanfattning : The naked skin surrounding the nostrils in most mammals is called a rhinarium. Rhinarium skin exhibits several unique characteristics, including an ultrastructure of pits or furrows on surface corneocytes, formed in a unique epidermal differentiation process (Paper I). LÄS MER
22. Stress urinary incontinence in women : pathophysiological aspects
Sammanfattning : Objective: The pathophysiology of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is multifactorial. In this thesis biochemical and ultrastructural changes in the paraurethral supporting connective tissue and changes in the innervation of the vaginal wall in relation to SUI have been focused upon. 23. Intracranial and intraocular grafting of fetal ventral mesencephalic and striatal tissues : neuronal survival and nerve growth characteristics
Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease is caused by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the ventral mesencephalon. Various animal models and clinical trials has shown that grafts of fetal ventral mesencephalic tissue can survive and functionally reinnervate the dopamine-depleted striatum, leading to long-term improvements of therapeutic value, but still symptomatic relief is far from complete. 24. Functional organisation and population behaviour of human peripheral nerve fibres : a microneurography study
Sammanfattning : With regard to the intraneural organisation of peripheral nerves findings obtained from previous anatomical and physiological studies appear to be controversial. The conventional concept seems to be that peripheral nerves lack a detailed topographical organisation. LÄS MER
25. Transurethral microwave thermotherapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia : mechanisms of action and clinical outcome
Sammanfattning : Background: The therapeutic value of transurethral microwave thermotherapy (TUMT) in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a matter of debate. Aims: Evaluation of the clinical effect of TUMT and of various duration of the treatment; investigation of the kind and extent of tissue lesions induced by TUMT and of the mechanisms behind the therapeutic effect; investigation of the effect of heat on human prostate stromal cells in cell culture.
