  2. 2. The human diving response : effects of temperature and training

    Författare :Erika Schagatay; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Djurfysiologi; pig; human; training; breath-holding time; breaking point; cold-receptors; arterial blood; vasoconstriction; bradycardia; diving reflex; diving response; Breath-hold diving; Animal physiology; simulated diving; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; Sports; Idrott; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to elucidate the cardiovascular response associated with breath-hold diving, especially the effects of temperature in its elicitation and the effects of different types of training on the human diving response (DR) and breath-holding time (BHT), and to evaluate the human DR in a mammalian perspective. A model for simulated diving by apnea and facial immersion in cold water was developed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Energy Feedback and Demand Response Strategies : Exploring Household Engagement and Response Using a Mixed Methods Approach

    Författare :Anders Nilsson; Maria Malmström; Cajsa Bartusch; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy feedback; demand response; household energy consumption; energy efficiency and conservation; demand flexibility; smart grids; smart homes; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Real-time energy feedback (EF) and demand response using dynamic pricing tariffs (DR) have been suggested as effective intervention strategies to meet the need for increased energy efficiency and demand flexibility in the residential sector. Although previous studies provide some empirical support for the effectiveness of EF and DR, evaluation approaches used in practical experiments and field trials commonly suffer from several methodological shortcomings, preventing deeper of knowledge on the potential and barriers for EF and DR to influence household energy consumption. 4. 4. Biomarker discovery and assessment for prediction of kidney response after 177Lu-octreotate therapy

    Författare :Emil Schüler; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PRRT; somatostatin; radionuclide therapy; 177Lu-octreotate; scintigraphy; renal function; toxicity; kidney response; radiation biology; microarray; molecular biomarkers; ionizing radiation; miRNA; proteomics; transcriptional response;

    Sammanfattning : Patients suffering from neuroendocrine tumors are oftentimes presented with spread disease at the time of diagnosis. Therapy using somatostatin analogs is today the only potentially curative treatment option for these patients. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Growth conditions and individual quality in starlings

    Författare :Martin Granbom; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Animal ecology; Djurekologi; cost of reproduction; individual quality; long-term effects; early condition; starling; Sturnus vulgaris;

    Sammanfattning : Variation in growth conditions during ontogeny may result in permanent differences in individual quality. This thesis focuses on how starlings are affected by environmental variation during the nestling period. Both landscape differences in food availability and experimental food supplementation affected survival and growth of nestlings. LÄS MER
