  1. 16. Water quality modeling based on landscape analysis: importance of riparian hydrology

    Författare :Thomas Grabs; Jan Seibert; Kevin Bishop; Hjalmar Laudon; Brian McGlynn; Georgia Destouni; Irena Creed; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water quality model; terrain analysis; geographical information system GIS; riparian zone; total organic carbon TOC; boreal catchments; Hydrology; Hydrologi; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies in high-latitude catchments have demonstrated the importance of near-stream riparian zones as hydrogeochemical hotspots with a substantial influence on stream chemistry. An adequate representation of the spatial variability of riparian-zone processes and characteristics is the key for modeling spatio-temporal variations of stream-water quality. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Toxicity of Inorganic Aluminium in Humic Streams

    Författare :Cecilia M. Andrén; Emil Rydin; Hans Borg; Ann-Kristin Eriksson Wiklund; Björn-Olav Rosseland; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic Al; toxicity; acidification; humic streams; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Aluminium (Al) has been recognised as a main toxic factor alongside pH in acidified water ecosystems. The toxic effect of Al has been attributed to inorganic Al (Ali), though there are few in situ studies in ambient humic waters which are the focus of this thesis. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Mixture toxicity of pesticides and biological effects in agricultural streams : field and laboratory studies

    Författare :Jenny Rydh Stenström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to examine pesticide mixture toxicity and its effects on aquatic biota in agricultural streams. This was accomplished by (1) calculating the ΣTUs for algae and Daphnia magna and a pesticide toxicity index (PTI) based on water quality standards (WQS) for long-term monitoring data (2002-2010), (2) by performing algal inhibition tests with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, using both collected in situ water samples and reconstituted water spiked with field-observed pesticide mixtures, and (3) by studying seasonal changes in macroinvertebrate and diatom communities during 2008 in four agricultural streams and determine a set of community-based metrics such as species richness, diversity, ASPT, SPEAR and IPS. 4. 19. Big Data Analytics for eMaintenance : Modeling of high-dimensional data streams

    Författare :Liangwei Zhang; Wolfgang Birk; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Drift och underhållsteknik; Operation and Maintenance Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Big Data analytics has attracted intense interest from both academia and industry recently for its attempt to extract information, knowledge and wisdom from Big Data. In industry, with the development of sensor technology and Information & Communication Technologies (ICT), reams of high-dimensional data streams are being collected and curated by enterprises to support their decision-making. 5. 20. Rarity in boreal stream: patterns, causes and consequences

    Författare :Per-Ola Hoffsten; Bo W. Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Central Sweden; site occupancy; dispersal limitation; natural disturbances; recolonization; flight-morphology; metapopulation; habitat stability; spring specialists; Crunoecia irrorata; niche limitation; Isogenus nubecula; nestedness; longitudinal distribution; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; zooekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Patterns of site occupancy among boreal stream insects were studied in central Sweden with focus on sparsely distributed species and the role of dispersal and niche limitations.In the study of dispersal limitation, I found that effects of an extraordinarily harsh winter in small to medium-sized streams were strongest in sites located in small streams and far from lake outlets.
