  1. 1. Reactivity of human omental blood vessels. Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine, substance P and the intravenous anaesthetic propofol

    Författare :Susanna Wallerstedt; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensivvård; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; endothelium; calcium; human; hyperpolarization; K channels; nitric oxide; omental artery; omental vein; propofol; receptors; Anestesiologi; serotonin; sympathetic nervous system; substance P;

    Sammanfattning : Regulation of blood flow involves several endogenous substances and mechanisms, and exogenous substances may also affect the blood flow. In the present thesis, human omental blood vessels were investigated in vitro concerning (i) characteristics of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors; (ii) mediators of substance P (SP)-induced relaxation; (iii) direct and indirect (via effects on sympathetic neurotransmission) effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol. 2. 2. Anaesthetics and the blood vessel wall. Actions of propofol and sevoflurane on sympathetic and endothelial control of smooth muscle function

    Författare :Karin Thorlacius; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; vein.; artery; endothelium; sympathetic nervous system; inhalation agent sevoflurane; Anaesthesia; intravenous propofol;

    Sammanfattning : The anaesthetics we use today dose-dependently decrease the mean arterial pressure partly due to direct or indirect effects on the blood vessels. In the present thesis human omental arteries and veins and rat femoral arteries were investigated in vitro concerning the effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol and the volatile anaesthetic sevoflurane on the function of the perivascular sympathetic nerves and the endothelial cells. 3. 3. Human vascular alpha-adrenoceptors. A study of peripheral arteries and veins in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Stig Steen; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : By means of a sensitive myograph and alpha-receptor subtype selective agonists and antagonists the postjunctional alpha-adrenoceptors were characterized in small omental and groin arteries and veins and in long saphenous veins obtained from 52 "healthy" adults during surgery. These vessels were found to have a mixed population of contraction mediating postjunctional alpha-receptors with a predominance of apha1-receptors in the arteries and a predominance of alpha2-receptors in the veins, although regional variations occurred. 4. 4. Endothelin and endothelin receptors in human pregnancy and delivery

    Författare :Kerstin Wolff; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Endothelin; endothelin receptor; human; pregnancy; preeclampsia; delivery;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a 21-amino acid peptide, first described by Yanagisawa et al in 1988. It is one of the most potent constrictors of smooth muscle cells identified to date. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Altered expression of contractile endothelin receptors in the vascular bed

    Författare :Mikael Adner; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; upregulation; transcriptional regulation; smooth muscle cells; plasticity; organ culture; Endothelin; receptor; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at characterizing the endothelin (ET) receptors in different vascular beds of man and rat. The ET-A receptor was shown to be the only contractile ET receptor present in all vascular regions, with the exception of the rat mesenteric vein where a weak ET-B receptor-mediated contraction was seen.
