  1. 1. Electric DNA arrays for determination of pathogenic Bacillus cereus

    Författare :Yanling Liu; Sven-Olof Enfors; Helena Anderson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacillus cereus; haemolysin; non-haemolytic enterotoxin; cytotoxin K-2; cereulide; toxin-coding genes; bacterial colony; electric DNA chip; ultrasonication; DNA fragmentation; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Silicon-based electric chip arrays were developed for characterization of Bacillus cereus with respect to the capacity to produce toxins involved in food poisoning and foodborne infections. Bacteria of the B. cereus group contain different sets of four toxins encoded by eight genes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bacillus Cereus. Adhesion Ability to Biological and Non-Biological Surfaces, Enterotoxins, Characterization

    Författare :Annika Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; characterization; Bacillus cereus; spores; adhesion; enterotoxin;

    Sammanfattning : The organism investigated in this thesis was Bacillus cereus, which is important as a food spoilage organism and as a pathogen. The adhesion of endospores to and the removal of endospores from siliconized glass surfaces were investigated to increase the knowledge of adhesion mechanisms and to improve the removal of endospores from surfaces. 3. 3. Signal transduction via ion fluxes : a cell imaging study with emphasis on calcium oscillations

    Författare :Per Uhlén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Calcium; Ca2 signalling; Ca2 oscillation; InsP3; InsP3 receptor; Na; K-ATPase; ouabain; physical interaction; FRET; spectral analysis; confocal microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Signal transduction via ion fluxes is of vital importance for all mammalian cells. Cells can exploit ion regulatory mechanisms to generate and transmit intracellular signals. Improvements in digital microscopic imaging technology have made it possible to explore micro-environments and complex intracellular machineries. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tissue responses and host transcriptomics in bacterial infections

    Författare :Jorrit Boekel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial infections can damage host tissue and are as such a potential threat to their hosts. To protect themselves from pathogens, hosts therefore can employ diverse immune reactions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies of cell signalling using bacterial toxins and organic electronic devices

    Författare :Peter Kjäll; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most versatile biological signalling entities is the calcium ion, Ca2+. With a characteristic spatial and temporal signalling pattern, this universal second-messenger directs diverse cellular functions, e.g. secretion of neurotransmitters at the synaptic cleft to regulation of transcription and fertilization.
