6. Tuning Properties of Surfaces and Nanoscopic Objects using Dendronization and Controlled Polymerizations
Sammanfattning : In this study, dendronization and grafting via controlled polymerization techniques, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring-opening polymerization (ROP), have been explored. Modification of surfaces and cellulose using these techniques, which enable grafting of well-defined polymer architectures, has been investigated. LÄS MER
7. Interactions between polymeric dispersants and colloidal ceramic surfaces
Sammanfattning : Increased use of environmentally acceptable chemicals and reduced energy consumption are two foreseeable demands within the ceramics industry. This will require the replacement of organic solvents and lowering of sintering temperatures. LÄS MER
8. Environment-Sensitive Multifunctional Drug Delivery Systems
Sammanfattning : Drug delivery systems (DDS) with multiple functionalities such as environment-sensitive drug release mechanisms and visualization agents have motivated the biomedical community as well as materials chemists for more than a decade. This dissertation is concerned with the development of nanoparticles for multifunctional DDS to tackle several crucial challenges in these complex systems, including polymeric nanospheres which respond to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles/polymeric composite for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents and drug carriers, immunoresponse of nanomaterials and injectable magnetic field sensitive ferrogels. 9. Natural fibres/polypropylene composites from residual and recycled materials
Sammanfattning : Natural fibres fulfil all the requirements in order toreplace inorganic fillers in thermoplastic composites. Naturalfibres are inexpensive, renewable, biodegradable, present lowerdensity and their mechanical properties can be compared tothose of inorganic fillers. However, several disadvantagesappear when natural fibres are used for composites. LÄS MER
10. Size Characterisation of Water-Soluble Polymers Using Asymmetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation
Sammanfattning : Size, as expressed by molar mass, radius of gyration or hydrodynamic radius, for example, is a fundamental parameter of polymers in solution. Thus, there is a strong need for the characterisation of both the size and shape of polymers, particularly of those utilised in various industrial applications. LÄS MER
