  1. 1. IgE sensitization against food allergens : Natural history, relation to airway inflammation and asthma

    Författare :Antonios Patelis; Andrei Malinovschi; Eva Rönmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allergen components; extract-based; exhaled NO; airway hyperresponsiveness; blood eosinophil count; IgE sensitization; food hypersensitivity; food allergens; perennial allergens; natural history; markers of systemic inflammation; markers of local inflammation; Lungmedicin; Lung Medicine; Fysiologi; Physiology; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: According to recent studies in children, IgE sensitization not only against perennial allergens, but also against food allergens, is related to asthma risk and increased airway inflammation. During the last decade, a new technique for IgE determination based on allergen components has become available, but its use in epidemiological studies has been limited. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Food hypersensitivity among schoolchildren : prevalence, Health Related Quality of Life and experiences of double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges

    Författare :Åsa Strinnholm; Rönmark Eva; Viveca Lindh; Linnéa Hedman; Inger Kull; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epidemiology; food-induced symptoms; food-reintroduction; interview;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The prevalence of reported food hypersensitivity among children has increased in Western countries. However, the prevalence varies largely due to differences in methods used in different studies. Double-blind placebo-controlled food challenge (DBPCFC) is the most reliable method to verify or exclude food hypersensitivity. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Epidemiology of food hypersensitivity in school children : validation with double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges and biomarkers

    Författare :Anna Winberg; Christina West; Eva Rönmark; Sibylle Koletzko; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; food hypersensitivity; schoolchildren; epidemiology; food challenges; biomarkers;

    Sammanfattning : Background: This thesis focuses on the incidence and remission of reported food hypersensitivity in schoolchildren followed from 8 to 12 -years of age and the prevalence of hypersensitivity to milk, egg, cod and wheat among 12-year olds investigated by reported data, clinical investigation and double-blind placebo-controlled food challenges and biomarkers.Methods: The studies are mainly based on a population based cohort recruited in 2006 from three municipalities in Northern Sweden. 4. 4. Regulation of human immune responses to allergens

    Författare :Anna-Carin Lundell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :recognition receptors; antigen-presenting cells; sCD14; sCD83; T cells; neonates; gut microflora; staphylococcus aureus; allergens; allergy; children;

    Sammanfattning : The incidence of allergic diseases is increasing in the industrialized countries. Epidemiological studies indicate that there is an association between exposure to high levels of endotoxin or cat allergen during infancy and reduced risk of developing allergic diseases later in childhood. 5. 5. Novel Computational Analyses of Allergens for Improved Allergenicity Risk Assessment and Characterization of IgE Reactivity Relationships

    Författare :Daniel Soeria-Atmadja; Ulf Hammerling; Mats Gustafsson; Rob Aalberse; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allergens; bioinformatics; statistical learning; performance estimation; risk assessment; Medical informatics; Medicinsk informatik;

    Sammanfattning : Immunoglobulin E (IgE) mediated allergy is a major and seemingly increasing health problem in the Western countries. The combined usage of databases of molecular and clinical information on allergens (allergenic proteins) as well as new experimental platforms capable of generating huge amounts of allergy-related data from a single blood test holds great potential to enhance our knowledge of this complex disease.
