1. Activation and Regulation of TRPV1 : Studies in Recombinant Human Neuroblastoma TRPV1-SHSY5Y Cells
Sammanfattning : TRPV1 is a transmembrane non-selective cation channel with preference for Ca2+. The receptor is primarily localised on dorsal root ganglion neurons and is activated by numerous endogenous and exogenous potentially irritating ligands eliciting pain. LÄS MER
2. A study on the vascular effects of prostaglandin F2α[ and latanaprost in the eye with special reference to the surface hyperaemia after topical administration
Sammanfattning : The ocular hypotensive effect of topically applied prostaglandins is usually accompanied byconjunctival hyperaemia and irritation. The purpose of the present study was to investigate thepharmacological mechanism of the ocular surface hyperaemia induced by topically appliedprostaglandins, particularly prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and its synthetic analogue latanoprost, aselective FP prostanoid receptor agonist. 3. Indoor environment and air quality in hospital units : Symptoms and signs
Sammanfattning : Indoor environment may influence the occurrence of symptoms such as eye, skin and upper airway irritation, headache and fatigue. The aim of the dissertation was to study relations between subjective indoor air quality, such symptoms, clinical signs from the nose and the eyes and the physical indoor environment, in particular the effect of dampness, type of building, and air humidification. 4. Experimental studies on acute health effects of acrolein and other aldehydes
Sammanfattning : Aldehydes are reactive and ubiquitous in indoor as well as outdoors and can give rise to significant health problems in humans, e.g. irritation of the eyes and toxic effects on the upper respiratory tract. This thesis focuses on the irritating and inflammatory properties of three commonly occurring aldehydes; acrolein, crotonaldehyde and hexanal. LÄS MER
5. Dimethylethylamine and dimethylbenzylamine in foundries and the epoxy industry : Analysis, metabolism, biological monitoring, toxicological effects and occupational exposure
Sammanfattning : Dimethylethylamine (DMEA) and dimethylbenzylamine (DMBA) are tertiary aliphatic amines, used as catalysts e.g., in mould core manufacturing and heat cured epoxy systems. Health effects such as visual disturbances and respiratory irritation occur among workers handling DMEA and airway symptoms are recorded by many workers exposed to DMBA. LÄS MER
