  1. 1. Towards the design of flexibility management in smart grids : A techno-institutional perspective

    Författare :Cherrelle Eid; Rudi Hakvoort; Weijnen Weijnen; Yashar Araghi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; energy; electricity; regulation; European Union; distribution networks; balancing markets; distributed energy resources; congestion management; market transparency; European governance; European modes of regulation; regulatory change; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The European policy focus on smart grids implies their development as an indispensable part of the future power system. However, the definition of a smart grid is broad and vague, and the actual implementation of a smart grid can differ significantly, depending on the stakeholders involved. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Strategies, Methods and Tools for Solving Long-term Transmission Expansion Planning in Large-scale Power Systems

    Författare :Desta Zahlay Fitiwi; Lennart Söder; Michel Rivier; Fernando de Cuadra; Andres Ramos; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transmission expansion planning; uncertainty and variability; optimization; stochastic programming; moments technique; clustering; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Driven by a number of factors, the electric power industry is expected to undergo a paradigm shift with a considerably increased level of variable energy sources. A significant integration of such sources requires heavy transmission investments over geographically wide and large-scale networks. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Integrated Community Energy Systems

    Författare :Binod Prasad Koirala; Mehrdad Ghandari; Rudi A. Hakvoort; Reinier Van der Veen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Distributed energy resources; community energy; local energy systems; institutional design; smart grids; energy system integration; community engagement; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Energy systems across the globe are going through a radical transformation as a result of technological and institutional changes, depletion of fossil fuel resources, and climate change. Accordingly, local energy initiatives are emerging and increasing number of the business models are focusing on the end-users. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On Gate Drivers for MOS-Controlled Power Devices and dv-dt Filters for Train Traction Converters

    Författare :Erik Velander; Hans-Peter Nee; Francesco Iannuzzo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Power semiconductor devices; DC-AC power converters; Silicon carbide; Insulated gate bipolar transistors; P-i-n diodes; Schottky diodes; Traction motors; Power MOSFET; Krafthalvledare; DC-AC kraftomvandlare; kiselkarbid; IGBT; P-i-n dioder; Schottky dioder; traktionsmotorer; Effekt-MOSFET; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, low-loss gate-drive solutions and a proposed dv/dt-filter have been investigated with focus on train traction converters with dv/dt constraints.By using the silicon carbide (SiC) junction field-effect transistor (JFET), the switching losses can be significantly reduced compared to the commonly used insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), but complex gate-driver solutions are required for high utilization in terms of loss reduction.
