26. Systemic fungal diseases in natural plant populations
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to study interactions between systemic fungal diseases and perennial plants. Using the systemic rust Puccinia minussensis on the host plant Lactuca sibirica, and the rust Puccinia pulsatillae on the host plant Pulsatilla pratensis, this thesis focused on: (i) the effects of systemic diseases on their hosts (ii) host and pathogen responses to abiotic factors, (iii) the importance of life history strategies for understanding host-pathogen interactions, and (iv) the evolutionary consequences of living in close associations. 27. Patterns in big data bioinformatics : Understanding complex diseases with interpretable machine learning
Sammanfattning : Alterations in the flow of genetic information may lead to complex diseases. Such changes are measured with various omics techniques that usually produce the so-called “big data”. Using interpretable machine learning (ML), we retrieved patterns from transcriptomics data sets. LÄS MER
28. Autosomal Dominant Leukodystrophy with Autonomic Symptoms and Rippling Muscle Disease : Translational Studies of Two Neurogenetic Diseases
Sammanfattning : There is a large variety of diseases caused by single-gene mutations. Although most of these conditions are rare, together they impose a significant burden to the population. LÄS MER
29. Uncovering biomarkers and molecular heterogeneity of complex diseases : Utilizing the power of Data Science
Sammanfattning : Uncovering causal drivers of complex diseases is yet a difficult challenge. Unlike single-gene disorders complex diseases are heterogeneous and are caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors which complicates the identification of patient subgroups and the disease causal drivers.
