1. Treatment selection in metastatic renal cell carcinoma : Towards an individualised approach
Sammanfattning : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC), a common malignancy worldwide, affects 1200 new patients yearly in Sweden. Metastatic RCC (mRCC) develops in one in three and is commonly incurable. Clear cell histology dominates followed by papillary histology. LÄS MER
2. Standardization of Islet Isolation and Transplantation Variables
Sammanfattning : Currently, the transplantation of islets of Langerhans is a viable means to maintain control of blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia in defined populations with brittle type I diabetes mellitus or those requiring pancreatectomy. However, the process of islet isolation is highly variable and not all isolations result in islet numbers or quality suitable for transplantation. LÄS MER
3. Membrane lipids and their transfer proteins in β-cells
Sammanfattning : Insulin secretion from β-cells is essential for glucose homeostasis and is often dysregulated in diabetes. Intracellular Ca2+ and membrane lipids cooperate to control insulin secretion with high spatial and temporal precision. LÄS MER
4. Neuron-to-neuron propagation of neurodegenerative proteins; relation to degradative systems
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are defined by neurodegeneration and accumulations of misfolded proteins that spread through the brain in a well characterized manner. In AD these accumulations consist mainly of β-amyloid (Aβ) and tau, while in PD, α-synuclein (α-syn) make up the characteristic lewy pathology. LÄS MER
5. Studies of α-synuclein Oligomers-with Relevance to Lewy Body Disorders
Sammanfattning : The protein alpha-synuclein (α-synuclein) accumulates in the brain in disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). It is believed that the monomeric form of α-synuclein can adopt a partially folded structure and start to aggregate and form intermediately sized oligomers or protofibrils. LÄS MER
