1. The Hand in Manual Work - Physiological and Psychophysical studies
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the hand in manual work. In particular, we have studied what happens to skin and muscles when gripping a hand tool. Different aspects of gripping that will be discussed are: pressure on the hand, effects on the skin blood flow, muscle activity and the use of wrist orthoses. LÄS MER
2. Exploring immune cell functions and ways to make use of them
Sammanfattning : In addition to host defense, alternative functions of immune cells are emerging. Immune cells are crucial during healing of injured tissue, in formation of new blood vessels, angiogenesis, and also in maintaining the balance in inflammation having immune regulating functions. 3. Laser Doppler perfusion imaging : methodology and skin applications
Sammanfattning : Over the last decade a number of emerging technologies have become available for the non-invasive study of skin anatomy and physiology. In this thesis, a method for mapping tissue perfusion based on the laser Doppler technique is presented together with some of the associated experimental and clinical applications. LÄS MER
4. Assessment of microvascular and metabolic responses in the skin
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this project was to develop experimental in vivo models that allow for minimally invasive investigations of responses in the skin to microvascular and metabolic provocations. The cutaneous microvasculature has emerged as a valuable model and been proposed to mirror the microcirculation in other organs. LÄS MER
5. Assessment of microvascular function by use of transdermal iontophoresis : methodological aspects
Sammanfattning : Assessment of the microcirculation is of major importance in understanding the physiology of the vasculature and in assessing te vascular effects of pathological conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and sepsis. Transdermal iontophoresis can be used to non‐invasively introduce vasoactive drugs into the skin. LÄS MER
