11. Atomistic Spin Dynamics, Theory and Applications
Sammanfattning : The topic of this Thesis is magnetization dynamics on atomic length scales. A computational scheme, Atomistic Spin Dynamics, based on density functional theory, the adiabatic approximation and the atomic moment approximation is presented. LÄS MER
12. Characterization and Functionalization of 2D Overlayers Adsorbed on Transition Metals
Sammanfattning : Two-dimensional layered materials, namely monolayer hexagonal boron nitride and graphene were grown by CVD on various transition metals. The physical and chemical properties of these systems were characterized systematically using synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques, scanning tunneling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction. 13. Computational Studies of Hydrogen Storage Materials : Physisorbed and Chemisorbed Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with first-principles calculations based on density functional theory to investigate hydrogen storage related properties in various high-surface area materials and the ground state crystal structures in alkaline earth dicarbide systems. High-surface area materials have been shown to be very promising for hydrogen storage applications owing to them containing numerous hydrogen adsorption sites and good kinetics for adsorption/desorption. 14. Small-Scale Sample Handling for Studies of Liquid Crystals and Lipid-Based Soft Matter
Sammanfattning : In the field of sensing in general and biosensing in particular, there is a growing need for integratingminiaturised senor elements in microfluidic systems. The advantages are several, some of which being that the consumption of, often very expensive, sample material can be reduced; sampleexchange can be optimized; sensor performance in terms of detection limits can be improved and phenomena occurring on a very small, and even single-molecule, scale can be studied. 15. Plasma Oscillations in Holographic Quantum Matter
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we explore strongly correlated matter in the framework of holographic duality. Specifically, we examine the quasinormal modes of such systems, and we extend the current framework to efficiently and naturally cover plasmons and other collective modes that may be found within strongly correlated matter.
