  1. 1. Simulations of Coastal Atmospheric Dynamics and Transport Processes

    Författare :Ragothaman Sundararajan; Dimitris Melas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; coastal atmosphere; dynamics; transport; Lagrangian particle dispersion model; mesoscale model; turbulence; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : The marine atmosphere can be highly variable in space and time, and the coastal terrain plays a crucial role in influencing its properties. These, in turn, determine the atmospheric transport in the coastal zone. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere - spatial and temporal variations

    Författare :Cecilia Backe; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tropical and temperate regions; global transport; temperature; latitudinal fractionation; fugacity; soil organic matter; soil-air exchange; washout ratio; rain; precipitation; atmosphere; spatial and temporal variations; DDT; PCB; persistent organic pollutants; polychlorinated biphenyls; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Ecology; Ekologi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : In these thesis I have studied the spatial and temporal variations of PCBs in the atmosphere and in precipitation in southern Sweden. Further, soil-air exchange processes of PCBs were investigated. Finally, the long-range transport of PCBs and DDT was studied in the Baltic Sea region and in a tropical vs. a temporal region. 3. 3. Drivers of carbon sink function in tropical seagrass beds : influence of carbon import, plant composition, seascape configuration and human activities

    Författare :Rashid O. Ismail; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Maria E. Asplund; Amelia S. Buriyo; Matern S.P. Mtolera; Teresa Alcoverro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbon sequestration; tropical seagrass meadows; coastal seascape; landscape configuration and transformation; calcification; allochthonous carbon; community respiration; carbon sink; human disturbance; coastal conservation; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Seagrass meadows are effective carbon sinks, sequestering atmospheric CO2 and capturing allochthonous organic material, storing organic carbon (Corg) in their sediments, so called Blue Carbon. In tropical areas, seagrass meadows have a high number of calcareous organisms, which can offset carbon sequestration by releasing CO2 through their calcification. LÄS MER

  4. 4. DISCO - Drivers and Impacts of Coastal Ocean Acidification

    Författare :Laurie Charrieau; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coastal ocean acidification; Foraminifera; Environmental changes; pH; Salinity;

    Sammanfattning : Ocean acidification, mainly attributed to the increasing anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere, is characterised by a lowering pH together with a shift in the sea water carbonate chemistry toward lower concentration of carbonate ions. On the coasts, where the environmental variability is high due to natural and human impacts, ocean acidification mainly affects the frequency, magnitude, and duration of lower pH and lower calcium carbonate saturation events. 5. 5. Aerosol deposition to coastal forests: a wind tunnel approach

    Författare :Ausra Reinap; Bo L.B. Wiman; Birgitta Svenningsson; Bo Bergbäck; Lise Lotte Sørensen; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NaCl aerosol; dry deposition; climate change; coastal-zone forest; Quercus robur; wind tunnel; edge effect; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Sammanfattning : Aerodynamically rough surfaces of forests provide for efficient air/ canopy exchange of mass, heat and momentum. In that context, the effects of forest edges come into focus, and therefore, coastal-zone forests constitute aparticular concern. LÄS MER
