1. Role of capsule endoscopy in small bowel management
Sammanfattning : The small bowel is difficult to reach and to examine endoscopically. Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) using a wireless imaging technology was introduced 2000. VCE is an ingestible capsule camera that takes photographs during its passage throughout the gastrointestinal tract. LÄS MER
2. Posterior capsule opacification : An experimental study in vitro and in vivo
Sammanfattning : The clinical and economic significance of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) makes it an important public health problem. A better understanding of the pathogenesis in order to reduce/prevent PCO is needed. For this purpose an experimental model in the rabbit was used and further developed in thisthesis. LÄS MER
3. On posterior capsule opacification
Sammanfattning : AimsPosterior capsule opacification (PCO) is the most common complication after cataractsurgery. The aim of this study was to increase our knowledge about PCO regardingquantification, treatment effects and how different designs of intraocular lenses(IOLs) influence occurrence. LÄS MER
4. Optimising performance in clinical capsule endoscopy
Sammanfattning : Video capsule endoscopy (VCE), perfomed by ingesting a small vitamin-sized camera pill, was developed over a period of a couple of decades and –since its introduction in clinical practice at the dawn of the millennium– has become an essential tool in the diagnosis and management of small bowel (SB) diseases. At the same time, other fields such as minimally invasive diagnosis of other parts of the gastointestinal (GI) tract has been or is currently explored as future applications of this technology. 5. Simulation of individual cells in flow
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows.
