  1. 1. Tissue responses to bone-implant biomaterials

    Författare :Haihong Liao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Gene expression; interface; mineralization; nacre; osteoblast; osteoclast; titanium;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of the studies was to understand the mechanisms which underlie the interaction between tissue and bone-implant biomaterials. Tissue and naturally occurring aragonite nacre interaction was systematically studied for the first time by combined histological examination, cellular and molecular biological approaches. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Osteocytes as indicators of bone quality - multiscale structure-composition characterisation of the bone-implant interface

    Författare :Furqan A. Shah; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 3D printing; apatite; biomaterials; biomineralisation; bone; bone quality; canaliculi; CoCr; collagen; electron beam melting; electron microscopy; implant; interface; in vivo; lacuna; micropetrosis; osseointegration; osteocyte; Raman spectroscopy; surface modification; Ti6Al4V; titanium; ultrastructure; whitlockite;

    Sammanfattning : By virtue of certain design features, bone anchored metal implants can be made to elicit a strong initial osteogenic response, i.e., the amount of bone formed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanisms of mechanically induced Osteoclastogenesis : in a novel in vitro model for bone implant loosening

    Författare :Cornelia Bratengeier; Anna Fahlgren; Per Aspenberg; Mikael Sigvardsson; Oran Kennedy; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Total joint arthroplasty is the primary intervention in the treatment of end-stage osteoarthritis. Despite the high success rate, in some patients, the replacement will fail during their lifetime requiring a revision of the implant. These revisions are strenuous for the patient and costly for health care. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mechanisms of Osseointegration: Experimental Studies on Early Cellular and Molecular Events in vivo

    Författare :Omar Omar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osseointegration; titanium; bone; gene expression; bone-implant interface; qPCR; inflammation; cytokine; chemotaxis; chemokine; integrin; bone formation; remodeling; in vivo; rat; immunohistochemistry; ultrastructure; biomechanical torque test;

    Sammanfattning : The early cellular and molecular activities determining the early tissue response and bone formation at bone/implant interface are not fully understood. The general aim of the current thesis was to develop a model for studying the early molecular and cellular activities in different bone types, and in response to different implant surface properties. 5. 5. The synergistic role of hierarchical macro- and mesoporous implant surface and microscopic view of enhanced osseointegration

    Författare :Guang Han; Zhijian Shen; Anders Palmqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Porosity; cell adhesion; cell proliferation; surface topography; implant; bone-implant interface; argon ion beam polishing; osteogenesis; osseointegration; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : The trend for designing of a titanium implant explored using different chemical compositions and crystallinity materials until people realized that the implant surface character was another important factor affecting the rate and extent of osseointegartion. Titanium received a macroporous titania surface layer by anodization, which contains open pores with average pore diameter around 5μm. LÄS MER
