  1. 6. The cell biology and catalytic properties of the nutrient-induced signaling endoprotease Ssy5

    Författare :António Martins; Per O. Ljungdahl; Bruno André; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nutrient sensing; signal transduction; regulated proteolysis; endoprotease; serine protease; substrate specificity; subcellular fractionation; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cells continuously sense and respond to changes in the presence, quality and quantity of external and internal nutrients. Specific signaling proteases have been identified based on their roles in processing or destruction of distinct sets of downstream effector proteins in response to environmental cues. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Development of Automated Algorithms for Epicardial Adipose Tissue Analysis in Computed Tomography and their Application in Population Based Research

    Författare :David Molnar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epicardial adipose tissue; Artificial intelligence; Automatic analysis; Computed tomography; Coronary atherosclerosis; Pre-diabetes; Vector electrocardiography;

    Sammanfattning : The epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), which surrounds the heart and is separated from other tissues only by the thin layers of the pericardium, has enjoyed intense research for the past decades. Increased inflammatory activity in the EAT in coronary artery disease has, together with associated volumetric expansion of the EAT and changes in its radiodensity supported theories that the EAT might play a role in the pathogenesis of coronary atherosclerosis or mirror its progression better than traditional risk factors. 3. 8. Modeling glioblastoma growth patterns and their mechanistic origins

    Författare :Emil Rosén; Sven Nelander; Rebecka Jörnsten; Philip Gerlee; Kristin Swanson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glioblastoma; invasion; image analysis; neural networks; Mathematics with specialization in Applied Mathematics; Matematik med inriktning mot tillämpad matematik; Oncology; Onkologi; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive primary brain cancer. GBM cells migrate away from the primary lesion and invade healthy brain tissue. The invading cells escape surgical resection, radiotherapy and develop resistance to chemotherapy. Consequently, despite treatment, recurrence is inevitable, and survival is only 14 months. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Towards improved drinking water safety : the use of in vitro bioassays to optimize treatment processes and assess chemical hazards

    Författare :Maria Yu; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Drinking water safety has been primarily dependent on the monitoring of only a limited number of individual chemicals via chemical analysis, which is insufficient to characterize the myriad of hazardous chemicals present in water. Effect-based methods (EBMs) using in vitro bioassays are useful in that they evaluate biological effects from all the known and unknown chemicals in the water and draw on toxicological principles. 5. 10. Structure and Function of the Borrelia burgdorferi Porins, P13 and P66

    Författare :Mari Bonde; Sven Bergström; Melissa Caimano; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia; P13; P66; porin; protein complex; dissemination; osmotic stress;

    Sammanfattning : Borrelia burgdorferi is an elongated and helically shaped bacterium that is the causal agent of the tick-borne illness Lyme disease. The disease manifests with initial flu-like symptoms and, in many cases, the appearance of a skin rash called erythema migrans at the site of the tick bite. LÄS MER
