    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate factors of significance for the development of acute confusional state (ACS), the confusional episodes, the lived experiences of having been confused in elderly patients admitted for emergency or elective surgery in orthopaedic care.     Sammanfattning : The aim of this descriptive, longitudinal study is to contribute to an understanding of parents’ influences on vital developmental processes in congenitally blind children. Without visual impressions verbal communication can have an important compensatory function, giving the child access to the external world and to social information that can not be obtained by other means.     Sammanfattning : The immediate post partum period may be particularly important for the developing relationship between mother and infant. This report consists of two studies: the first study (paper I) gives descriptions of the interaction between infants and their parents during the first hour post partum and the second study (papers II-IV) in this report examines the effect of extra contact during the first hour following delivery.
