  1. 1. TGF-beta signaling in cancer

    Författare :Erik Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TGF-β; proliferation; cancer; tumor suppressor; diffuse-type gastric carcinoma; neuroblastoma; nuclear receptor TLX; cancer stem cell; angiogenesis; ABCG2; VHL; HIF2α; hypoxia; Smad3;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF-β) is a cytokine regulating a wide range of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and migration. At the early stages of cancer development TGF-β functions as a tumor suppressor, mainly due to its inhibitory effect on cellular growth, but during cancer progression, mutations in TGF-β signal components switches TGF-β into a promoter of cancer cell proliferation, survival and metastasis. 2. 2. Approaches for the localization and identification of human cancer genes

    Författare :Wong-Onn Lui; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :CGH; FISH; SKY; karyotyping; SNP array; expression array; VHL-associated pheochromocytomas; hemangioblastomas; familial renal cell carcinoma; constitutional translocation; sporadic follicular thyroid tumors; chromosomal alterations; fusion oncogene; FTCF-PPAR gamma l; PAX8-PPAR gamma l.;

    Sammanfattning : Chromosomal aberrations have been recognized as important observations that underpin the concept of a mutator phenotype in cancer. In this thesis, two basic strategies were applied to map the location of cancer-related genes in several types of cancers. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The role of transforming growth factor‐β signaling and hypoxia‐inducible factors in renal cell carcinoma

    Författare :Pramod Mallikarjuna; Maréne Landström; Börje Ljungberg; Raviprakash Tumkur Sitaram; Anders Bjartell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-β; Hypoxia; Renal cell carcinoma; ccRCC; non-ccRCC; transforming growth factor-β; ALK5; pVHL; HIF-α; SNAIL1; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the cancer of the kidneys; about 1100 patients with RCC are diagnosed in Sweden each year. RCC can be classified into several subtypes, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is most common accounting to about 70% of all RCCs, and also the most lethal; papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) accounts to about 10%‐15%, while chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (chRCC) accounts to about 5% of all RCCs. 4. 4. Exploring mTOR-dependent regulation of mRNA translation in cancer

    Författare :Hui Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Modulation of mRNA translation via the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway is primarily achieved by integrating internal or external signals onto the translation machinery, especially on the rate-limiting initiation step during mRNA translation. Subsets of transcripts are discriminated by structural and/or sequence features, and encode proteins involved in different biological functions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interplay between the Myc oncoprotein, cyclin-dependent kinases and E3 ubiquitin ligases

    Författare :Hamid Reza Sharifi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mammalian cells grow, divide, and die in a precise and orderly fashion. For cells to grow and maintain their integrity they need to communicate at both intracellular and extracellular level. LÄS MER
