  1. 1. Hadron Physics in a Polarized World : Exploring Electromagnetic Interactions with Spin Observables

    Författare :Viktor Thorén; Andrzej Kupsc; Karin Schönning; Magnus Wolke; David Ireland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hadron; Hyperon; Meson; Polarization; Spin observables; Electromagnetic interactions; BESIII; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The electromagnetic interactions of hadrons serve as a valuable probe of the nature of the strong force at low energies and simultaneously allow for tests of fundamental discrete symmetries. In this thesis, I show how polarization observables can be used to gain an in-depth understanding of these processes and present two analyses of data from the BESIII experiment where such observables have been studied. 2. 2. A Kerr-full Study of Higher-Spin Amplitudes : An on-shell construction of higher-spin amplitudes for black holes and strings

    Författare :Paolo Pichini; Henrik Johansson; Donal O'Connell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scattering amplitudes; higher-spin theory; black holes; string theory; gravitational waves; Theoretical Physics; Teoretisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Recently, it was shown that Kerr black holes can be described via the classical infinite-spin limit of a special class of scattering amplitudes in a massive higher-spin quantum field theory. Although this approach has successfully obtained state-of-the-art results for spinning black-hole binaries, only the three-point amplitude that describes Kerr is known in full generality and a full understanding of the underlying Lagrangian is still missing. 3. 3. From Quantum to Classical Scattering of Kerr Black Holes : A construction of massive higher-spin scattering amplitudes and their classical limits

    Författare :Lucile Cangemi; Henrik Johansson; Yu-tin Huang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Higher-spin theory; higher-spin amplitudes; Kerr black holes; EFT; black hole scattering; classical limit; Theoretical Physics; Teoretisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Gravitational scattering processes involving black holes as asymptotic states can provide insight into the classical dynamics of binary black hole systems. The observed gravitational waves emitted during mergers need to be compared to high-precision theoretical predictions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Exploring the Merits and Challenges of Hyperon Physics : with PANDA at FAIR

    Författare :Walter Ikegami Andersson; Karin Schönning; Michael Papenbrock; Tord Johansson; Volker Crede; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hadron physics; Hyperon; Track reconstruction; Non-perturbative QCD; Spin observables; PANDA; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Binary hyperon production in antiproton-proton annihilations will be carried out with the PANDA experiment at FAIR, and probes the strong interaction in the non-perturbative regime where the relevant degrees of freedom are unclear. The self-analyzing decays of hyperons provide a straightforward way to study reaction dynamics via the measurement of spin observables. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Tilted Foils Nuclear Spin Polarization at REX-ISOLDE

    Författare :Hans Törnqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beta-NMR; ISOLDE; tilted foils; particle scattering; post-acceleration; REX-ISOLDE; nuclear spin polarization; HIE-ISOLDE;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis will explain and summarize my work and involvement in experiments aimed at producing nuclear spin polarization of post-accelerated beams of ions with the tilted-foils technique at the REX-ISOLDE linear accelerator at CERN. Polarizing the nuclear spin of radioactive beams in particular may provide access to observables which may be difficult to obtain otherwise. LÄS MER
