  1. 16. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation

    Författare :Christopher Sjöwall; Thomas Skogh; Johan Frostegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoantibodies; complement activation; C-reactive protein; cytokines; immune complex; immunoregulation; opsonization; systemic lupus erythematosus; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates. 2. 17. On diet in ankylosing spondylitis

    Författare :Björn Sundström; Solveig Wållberg-Jonsson; Gunnar Johansson; Margaretha Haugen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diet; ankylosing spondylitits; omega-3; cardiovascular; reumatologi; rheumatology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the role of diet in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Patients were examined in: i) a postal questionnaire survey of dietary habits and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms; ii) a study on biomarkers of diet and disease activity; iii) a comparison of cardiovascular risk factors with the general population using data from the Västerbotten Intervention Programme (VIP), and; iv) a 21-week omega-3 fatty acid supplementation study regarding the effects on disease activity. 3. 18. Genetic studies in rheumatoid arthritis : familial studies and analysis of relationships to atherothrombotic comorbidity

    Författare :Lisbeth Ärlestig; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Dan Holmberg; Åsa Torinsson Naluai; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; genetics; familial studies; ACPA and cardiovascular co-morbidity; reumatologi; rheumatology; genetik; Genetics; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease mainly affecting the joints but has also extra articular manifestations and an increased cardiovascular (CV) co-morbidity. Rheumatoid factor (RF) and antibodies against citrullinated proteins/peptides (ACPA) are diagnostically important and are related to a more severe disease. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Treatment of arthritis with tumour necrosis factor antagonists. Clinical, immunological and biochemical aspects

    Författare :Meliha C Kapetanovic; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; ANA; infusion reaction; influenza vaccination; pneumococcal vaccination; COMP; TNF antagonists; spondylarthropathies; arthritis; rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The treatment of arthritis has undergone a dramatic change since biological agents targeting specific mediators of the disease process have been introduced. Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists have been shown to reduce signs and symptoms of disease and to retard the development of tissue damage in the majority of patients. LÄS MER

  5. 20. On the etiology and pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus with special reference to environmental factors

    Författare :Anders Bengtsson; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Skeleton; Risk factors; Human parvovirus B19; Immune complex; Disease activity; Interferon-alpha; SLE; Retrovirus;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease in which environmental factors interact with genetic factors in the development of the disease process and evolution of clinical manifestations. In this thesis both exogenous factors and host factors were investigated, as well as important immunopathological aspects including involvement of immune complex (IC), the complement system and interferon-alpha (IFN-α).
