  1. 21. Pain and disability in the jaw and neck regions after whiplash trauma : a short- and long-term perspective

    Författare :Ewa Lampa; Birgitta Häggman-Henrikson; Anders Wänman; Erik Nordh; Malin Ernberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Jaw pain; Neck Pain; Neck disability; Orofacial pain; Psychosocial factors; Temporomandibular disorders; TMD; Temporomandibular joint; TMJ; Whiplash injury; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Whiplash trauma, a hyperextension-flexion trauma to the neck that is often related to a car accident, affects tens of thousands in Sweden every year. A significant proportion will develop long-term symptoms including neck pain and dysfunction – this is embraced as Whiplash associated disorders (WAD). LÄS MER

  2. 22. Dentoalveolar and craniofacial changes from early adolescence to late adulthood

    Författare :Nameer Al-Taai; Anna Westerlund; Maria Ransjö; Eva Levring Jäghagen; Timo Peltumäki; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Craniofacial growth; age-related changes; cephalometric superimposition; serial extraction; lower incisor crowding; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: Study I: To evaluate the reliability and validity of different superimposition methods and to increase the precision with which craniofacial growth and treatment can be quantified. Study II: To explore the craniofacial changes that occur from early adolescence to late adulthood. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Calcified carotid artery atheromas in panoramic radiographs : diagnostic reliability and association to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and periodontitis

    Författare :Nils Gustafsson; Eva Levring Jäghagen; Jan Ahlqvist; Ulf Näslund; Per Wester; Annika Ekestubbe; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Panoramic radiographs; cardiovascular disease; carotid artery atheromas; diabetes mellitus; oral health; periodontitis; diagnostic accuracy; myocardial infraction; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Incidental findings of Calcified Carotid Artery Atheromas (CCAA) on Panoramic Radiographs (PRs) of the jaws can be a risk marker for cardiovascular disease. The objectives for the thesis were to investigate the association between CCAA and 1) Myocardial Infarction (MI), 2) periodontitis, 3) diabetes and 4) estimated cardiovascular risk. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Periodontitis in adolescents : presence of Aggregatibacter species and interactions with the host

    Författare :Mark Lindholm; Jan Oscarsson; Anders Johansson; Carola Höglund-Åberg; Eija Könönen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans; Aggregatibacter aphrophilus; periodontitis; adolescents; OmpA; outer membrane vesicles; serum resistance; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Aggregatibacter aphrophilus are closely related gram-negative bacteria mainly found in the oral cavity. Periodontitis in adolescents is associated with the presence of A. actinomycetemcomitans, but not with the presence of A. aphrophilus. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Healing of endosseous implants with different surface characteristics in grafted and non-grafted bone : clinical and experimental studies

    Sammanfattning : Aims: This study uses radiological and clinical evaluations of the healing of endosseous titanium implants presented with different surface characteristics in the clinical situation (paper I-III) and experimentally to describe the early bone healing in maxillary sinus membrane elevation with and without the use of grafting material (paper IV).Material and methods: In paper I, 136 patients were treated with 394 dental implants – 199 were oxidized titanium implants (Nobel Biocare TiUnite) and 195 were turned titanium surface implants (Nobel Biocare Mark III).
