26. Theoretical Studies Using Simple Ionic Liquid Models
Sammanfattning : Room Temperature Ionic Liquids (RTILs) are organic salts that melt below 100 degrees Celsius. The advantages of RTILs, such as high ionic concentrations and low melting points, promote several potential applications. For instance, RTILs could be utilized in manufacturing energy storage devices, and as efficient solvents. LÄS MER
27. Monte Carlo approach to binding and aggregation of disordered peptides
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, theoretical models are applied to study some aspects of intrinsically disordered proteins, i.e. proteins that partly or entirely lack a stable native structure. In particular, focus is on peptide binding and aggregation. LÄS MER
28. Initial Oxidation Kinetics of Al(111): A Monte Carlo Study
Sammanfattning : Almost all metals around us have a thin oxide layer on top of the bulk metal underneath. Often this oxide film protects the metal against further oxidation, or corrosion. Examples are the oxide film that makes stainless steel "stain-less" or the ones on titanium and aluminium alloys, which are very corrosion resistant. LÄS MER
29. A Matter of Disorder : Monte Carlo Simulations of Phase Transitions in Strongly Disordered Systems
Sammanfattning : Phase transitions and their critical scaling properties, especially in systems with disorder, are important both for our theoretical understanding of our environment, but also for their practical use in applications and materials in our everyday life. This thesis presents results from finite size scaling analysis of critical phenomena in systems with disorder, using high-precision Monte Carlo simulations and state of the art numerical methods. 30. Experimental data and Total Monte Carlo : Towards justified, transparent and complete nuclear data uncertainties
Sammanfattning : The applications of nuclear physics are many with one important being nuclear power, which can help decelerating the climate change. In any of these applications, so-called nuclear data (ND, numerical representations of nuclear physics) is used in computations and simulations which are necessary for, e.g., design and maintenance.
