1. The clinical value of total isovolumic time
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the use of Doppler echocardiography markers ofglobal dyssynchrony [total isovolumic time (t-IVT)] in the following 6 studies: 1) Its prognostic role in predicting cardiac events in patients undergoing CABG surgery, compared with conventional global systolic and diastolic measurements. 2) Its additional value in predicting six minute walk test (6-MWT) in patients with leftventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) . 2. Insight into coronary artery ectasia
Sammanfattning : Background:Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is defined as a diffuse dilatation of the epicardial coronary arteries exceeding 1.5 folds the diameter of the normal adjacent arterial segment and/ or the remaining non-dilated part of the same artery. (1) The incidence of CAE has been variably reported between different nations and ranges between 1. LÄS MER
3. The important role of left atrial function parameters in clinical practice
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the role of left atrial function in clinical practice based on the following studies:1) Determining left atrial (LA) structure and myocardial function measurements that predict pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP).2) Identifying predictors of exercise capacity in patients with HFpEF and right ventricle (RV) dysfunction. 4. New insights in the assessment of right ventricular function : an echocardiographic study
Sammanfattning : Background: The right ventricle (RV) is multi-compartmental in orientation with a complex structural geometry. However, assessment of this part of the heart has remained an elusive clinical challenge. LÄS MER
5. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation
Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients.
