  1. 21. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) : prevalence, incidence, decline in lung function and risk factors

    Författare :Anne Lindberg; Bo Lundbäck; Rune Lundgren; Lars-Gunnar Larsson; Sven Larsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease; Prevalence; Incidence; Decline in Lung Function; Risk Factors; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden (OLIN) Studies started in 1985 as an epidemiological project with the aim to detect preventable risk factors for obstructive lung diseases and allergy. In recent years there has been a focus also on obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) besides asthma and allergy. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Right heart function in health and disease : a doppler echocardiography and doppler tissue imaging study

    Författare :Per Lindqvist; Elsadig E Kazzam; Anders Waldenström; Lars Åke Brodin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Echocardiography; Doppler tissue imaging; right ventricle; cardiac catheterisation; isovolumic relaxation; isovolumic contraction; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: It is well known that performance of the right ventricle (RV) determines exercise capacity and may confer prognostic information in different cardiopulmonary diseases. To allow optimal patient management, ideal methods to assess right heart function are therefore important. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Salivary glands and oral lesions in diabetes mellitus : an experimental and clinical study with special reference to the influence of metabolic control and duration of the disease

    Författare :Carl-Olof Reuterving; Erik Hägg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes mellitus; salivation; salivary glucose; saliva; submandibular gland; pilocarpine; root surface caries; periodontal disease; alloxan; feeding behavior; rats; humans;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is associated with several clinically significant abnormalities in the oral cavity and salivary glands, the most common being periodontitis, salivary gland enlargement and a sensation of dry mouth. The prevalence of dental caries in diabetics is mostly reported to be decreased or unaffected. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Alterations in peripheral glucocorticoid metabolism : effects of weight changes

    Författare :Kotryna Simonyté; Cecilia Mattsson; Bo Angelin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 11ß Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1; obesity; glucocorticoids; cortisol; phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase; adipose tissue; liver; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: An important role has been suggested for tissue-specific glucocorticoid metabolism in the development of obesity and its complications. 11ß hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11ßHSD1) is an enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of biologically inactive cortisone to active cortisol, thereby regulating its access to glucocorticoid receptors in target tissues. 5. 25. Brain function and glucocorticoids in obesity and type 2 diabetes including effects of lifestyle interventions

    Författare :Andreas Stomby; Tommy Olsson; Mats Ryberg; Carl-Johan Boraxbekk; Alasdair MacLullich; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obesity; type 2 diabetes; glucocorticoid; cortisol; 11beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1; episodic memory; functional magnetic resonance imaging; paleolithic diet; exercise; Internal Medicine; invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background Obesity and associated metabolic dysregulation are linked to impaired cognitive function and alterations in brain structure, which increases the risk of age-related dementia. Increased glucocorticoid (GC) exposure may be a potential mediator of these negative effects on the brain. LÄS MER
