  1. 16. On amino acid neurotransmitters in the spinal cord motor nuclei

    Författare :Göran Örnung; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :neurotransmitter; aspartate; glutamate; GABA. glycine; homocysteate; taurine; ultrastructure; freeze-substitution; immunocytochemistry; bouton; synaptic input; motoneuron; strech reflex; spinal cord; cat. rat;

    Sammanfattning : Using pre- and post-embedding immunocytochemistry, the distribution of six amino acid neurotransmitter candidates, with special reference to y-amino-butyric acid (GABA), glycine and glutamate was examined in boutons apposing somata and dendrites in the lumbar motor nuclei of the cat spinal cord. The monosynaptic connection between muscle spindle I a afferents and motoneurons regarding content of neuroactive amino acid and complement of amino acid receptors in the postsynaptic membrane was studied in the rat. 2. 17. Structure and function of trigeminal primary sensory neurons after peripheral nerve injury

    Författare :Ulf Bongenhielm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :ankyrinG; chronic constriction injury; electron microscopy; electrophysiology; hyperexcitability; immunocytochemistry; inferior alveolar nerve; in situ hybridisation; nerve injury; neuroma; SNS PN3; sodium channel; trigeminal ganglion;

    Sammanfattning : Iatrogenic injuries to branches of the trigeminal nerve are common during surgical procedures in the jaws and teeth, and as the repercussion of facial fractures or certain pathologies. A portion of these patients are left with disturbed sensory functions, and some with unpleasant abnormal sensations, including pain. LÄS MER

  3. 18. The central cervical nucleus in the rat : studies on connectivity, function and chemical transmission

    Författare :Birger Ragnarson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Amino acid transmitter AMPA Anterograde Cerebellum Cervical Choleragenoid Electron microscopy Freeze-substitution Glutamate Horseradish peroxidase Ia primary afferent Immunogold Immunocytochemistry Locomotion Motoneuron NMDA Neck muscle Postembedding;

    Sammanfattning : The central cervical nucleus (CCN) is a spinocerebellar cell group in the upper cervical spinal cord (rat: Cl-C3), that is known to receive a powerful primary afferent input from, the upper cervical spinal nerves (C 1-C4), originating mainly from muscle spindle afferents in deep dorsal neck muscles and from the ipsi- and contralateral vestibular nuclei. It projects to the cerebellar vermis bilaterally and to all the vestibular nuclei contralaterally. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Mucosal regeneration following sinus surgery : an experimental study and clinical study

    Författare :Karin Forsgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chronic sinusitis; histopathology; Caldwell-Luc operation; sinus surgery; rabbit; regeneration; sinus mucosa; experimental sinusitis; microcirculation; blood flow; vasoreactivity; nerve regeneration; sympathetic; neuropeptide Y; tyrosine hydroxylase; immunocytochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The investigations described in this thesis concerned functional and structural aspects of the regenerated sinus mucosa following sinus surgery. In a biopsy material collected pre- and postoperatively from patients with chronic maxillary sinusitis, randomized for treatment with either Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) or the Caldwell-Luc procedure (CL), histological parameters were evaluated semi-quantitatively and correlated to endoscopic findings and patients' symptoms. 5. 20. Validation of biomarkers and digital image analysis in breast pathology

    Författare :Gustav Stålhammar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : For women worldwide, the risk of developing breast cancer is second only to that of nonmelanoma skin cancer. Significant improvements have been made in survival over the past decades and today about 80 % of the patients survive 10 years or more after their breast cancer diagnosis. LÄS MER
