11. C-reactive protein in clinical practice with special regard to infectious diseases
Sammanfattning : A new simple affinity purification method for human CRP using Arginine-Sepharose 4B was developed with a recovery of >90 % and containing < 5-10 % contaminating proteins. In a multicenter study including 607 consecutive patients in general practice, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and serum CRP were compared. LÄS MER
12. Endogenous proteins as markers of glomerular function and dysfunction
Sammanfattning : Plasma and urine concentrations of endogenous proteins are frequently used in the diagnosis of kidney diseases and in studies of glomerular filter function. The main issues addressed in these studies were: storage of urine samples for subsequent protein analysis, use of protein concentrations in urine and in plasma in health and as markers of glomerular diseases, and the application of renal plasma-to-urine clearance of endogenous proteins in estimating the size-selectivity properties of the glomerular capillary wall. 13. Galectin binding proteins in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage -in healthy and pathological conditions
Sammanfattning : Galectins are carbohydrate binding proteins, implicated in conditions of both inflammation and cancer. Connections between chronic inflammation and cancer are proposed by the increased remodelling and proliferation that occurs, leading to enhanced survival and proliferation of malignant cells. LÄS MER
14. New predictive and diagnostic biomarkers for preeclampsia
Sammanfattning : Abstract Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication that affects 3-8% of all pregnancies leading to maternal- and fetal morbidity and mortality. The etiology is still not known in detail. Previous findings have shown an up regulation of the genes coding for fetal hemoglobin (HbF) in preeclamptic placentas. LÄS MER
15. Functional properties of galectin-3. Beyond the sugar binding
Sammanfattning : Contemporary diseases like diabetes, asthma, atherosclerosis etc. are marked by chronic inflammation, often supported by the activity of different macrophages. Proteins from galectin family were found to contribute to disease pathophysiology. Therefore, there is an intensive interest in understanding different galectin functions. LÄS MER
