  1. 21. Thermal plasticity and limitations in tropical trees

    Författare :Maria Wittemann; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acclimation; African tropical forest; chlorophyll fluorescence; climate change; drought; hydraulic; montane; photosynthesis; respiration; successional strategies; temperature; tropical trees; warming;

    Sammanfattning : Tropical forests are the most carbon dense and biodiverse terrestrial biome on earth. In a time of global warming and biodiversity crisis, their preservation must be of high priority. At the same time, they likely operate close to their thermal limits because of a historically and seasonally stable environment. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Local adaptation in life history traits and population size estimation of aquatic organisms

    Författare :Konrad Karlsson; Monika Winder; Johan Ehrlén; Juha Merilä; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; local adaptation; intraspecific variation; niche partitioning; life history; global warming; recreational angling; spatial capture–recapture; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human society is dependent on healthy aquatic ecosystems for our basic needs and well-being. Therefore, knowledge about how organisms respond and interact with their environments is pivotal. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Insights into Marine Fish Physiology in a Changing World

    Författare :Karine Bresolin de Souza; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ocean acidification; carbon dioxide; temperature; global warming; Hippoglossus hippoglossus; Gasterosteus aculeatus; immune system; energy metabolism enzymes; oxidative stress; proteomics; behaviour;

    Sammanfattning : Ocean acidification and global warming are largely caused by increased levels of atmospheric CO2, and marine fish are exposed to both these stressors simultaneously. Although the effects of temperature on fish have been investigated over the last century, the effects of moderate CO2 exposure and the combination of both stressors are not well-understood, especially long-term effects. 4. 24. Habitat-Forming Seaweeds in a Changing Climate

    Författare :Alexandra Kinnby; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean acidification; Warming; Freshening; Temperature; Salinity; pH; pCO2; Fucus vesiculosus; Phlorotannins; Grazing; Tissue resilience; Macroalgae;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change is an umbrella term encompassing some of the largest and most potent selective pressures currently acting on ecosystems. It can have diverse effects on marine systems; the most powerful of which are changes to salinity through altered patterns of precipitation and evaporation, temperature through increased global temperature, and pH through the dissolution of CO2 into seawater where it ultimately reacts with water to form carbonate (CO32-) and hydrogen ions (2H+). 5. 25. Essays on Environmental and Energy Economics

    Författare :Haishan Yu; Chuan-Zhong Li; Bertil Holmlund; Tomas Sjögren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Carbon market; Difference-in-differences; Electricity market; Time series model; Carbon emissions; Global warming; Ocean acidification; Threshold effect; Lump-sum transfers; Equity and efficiency; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Essay I: In January, 2005, the EU launched the first international emissions trading system (EU ETS), aimed at reducing carbon emissions in a cost-effective way by means of a market-based instrument. In this paper, we use the treatment/control, before/after design of the natural experiment approach to investigate the treatment effect of the EU ETS on the profitability of a sample of Swedish energy firms in 2005 and 2006.
