    Sammanfattning : This study emerges from the question: what is contemporary art, and mainly what criteria constitute contemporary art in a globalized art world in general? Thus, the focus of this dissertation is on the postcolonial context of Australia and the fact that the contemporary art scene in Australia is divided into Australian and Aboriginal art respectively. This is a division originating from the colonization of Australia that began in the 1770’s, resulting in an Australian art descending from a Western art practice, where there is further focus on two categories within this art. While studies have pointed to the disproportionate effects unemployment and urban poverty have on women in urban areas, gender-focused livelihood research continues to occupy a peripheral space in the field of Human geography.     Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the survival patterns of the urban poor in Santiago de Chile during a period of profound structural changes (1930-1970). Using a qualitative approach and a dynamic analysis, the life histories of 54 interviewees are studied in the framework of the historical, economic, social and cultural conditions of the period.     Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with orders, clubs and societies and their impact on the making of the bourgeoisie in Gothenburg during the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Clubs and societies worked as platforms for the articulation of the collective experiences among merchants, public officials, army officers, civil servants, and just as important their daughters and wives.
