  1. 1. Aspects of diagnosis and treatment of hypopituitarism in adult life

    Författare :Helena Filipsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypopituitarism; pituitary; diagnosis; treatment; GHD; central hypothyroidism; genetic; idiopathic; ACTH insufficiency; discontinuation;

    Sammanfattning : Management of adult patients with hypopituitarism can improve with better char¬ac¬terisation of idiopathic pituitary insufficiency (IPI) and clearer diagnosis of central hy¬pothy¬roidism (CH). Moreover, optimised treatment strategies for glucocorticoid (GC) re¬placement therapy and of long-term growth hormone (GH) in GH deficiency (GHD) are needed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement therapy in growth hormone deficient adults

    Författare :Galina Götherström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :growth hormone; body composition; bone mass; bone density; muscle strength; lipids; glucose metabolism; adult onset GHD; childhood onset GHD; gender;

    Sammanfattning : Deficiency of growth hormone (GHD) in adults results in abnormal body composition, reduced bone mass and muscle strength, deteriorated cardiovascular risk factors. Short-term GH replacement reverses many of the symptoms associated with adult GHD. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Growth hormone responsiveness in children : results from Swedish multicenter clinical trials of growth hormone treatment

    Författare :Elena Lundberg; Berit Kriström; Kerstin Albertsson-Wikland; Roland Pfäffle; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gain in height; puberty; IGHD; non-GHD; IGF-I; bioavailability;

    Sammanfattning : The general aims of the thesis were to study GH responsiveness by estimation of pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of injected recombinant human GH (rhGH), of growth response as gain in heightSDS during childhood and puberty, and IGF-I response as change in circulating IGF-ISDS and IGFBP3SDS. Methods Short children were recruited during 1988–1999 into two national randomized multicentre clinical trials on growth until adult height. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bone health and cardiovascular risk in hypopituitary patients on complete hormone replacement, including GH

    Författare :Helene Holmer; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi; Craniopharyngioma; insulin tolerance test; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; cardiovascular risk; growth hormone deficiency; fracture incidence; bone mineral density; growth hormone replacement;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is associated with decreased bone mineral density (BMD). Low BMD is correlated to increased fracture risk. There are no studies on fracture risk in GHD patients on GH therapy and no studies on BMD in adults with childhood onset (CO) craniopharyngioma (CP) on GH therapy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic and epidemiological aspects of implantation defects : Studies on recurrent miscarriage, preeclampsia and oocyte donation

    Författare :Evangelia Elenis; Agneta Skoog Svanberg; Alkistis Skalkidou; Gunilla Sydsjö; Helena Åkerud; Anja Pinborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; genetic polymorphism; gestational hypertensive disorders; Histidine-rich glycoprotein; HRG; implantation defect; oocyte donation; placentation; preeclampsia; recurrent miscarriage; SNP.; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Implantation requires complex molecular and cellular events involving coagulation, angiogenesis and immunological processes that need to be well regulated for a pregnancy to establish and progress normally.  The overall aim of this thesis was to study different models associated with atypical angiogenesis, impaired implantation and/or placentation, such as recurrent miscarriage (RM), oocyte donation (OD) and preeclampsia.
