11. The Potential of b-value Variations as Earthquake Precursors for Small and Large Events
Sammanfattning : The potential of variations of b-values in the G-R relation, logN=a-bM as earthquake precursors for small events (rockbursts) in Zinkgruvan mine, Sweden and for tectonic (large) earthquakes in the Andaman-Sumatra region were investigated. The temporal frequency-magnitude distribution, b(t), of rockbursts in Zinkgruvan mine was examined using high quality data recorded during the period November 1996 to April 2004 with magnitude ranges from Mw= -2. 12. Seismicity and crustal structure in Iceland
Sammanfattning : The main goal of this Ph.D. thesis is to improve locations of earthquake hypocenters and to resolve heterogeneous crustal structure and its effects on travel times. The data and case studies are drawn from the Icelandic national SIL network and the temporary NICE project deploy-ment in the Tjörnes Fracture Zone. LÄS MER
13. Seismic quiescence patterns and earthquake prediction research : Testing hypotheses for Greece and China
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this investigation is to evaluate the most well known hypotheses and models in earthquake prediction research. For this reason we investigate the "localized" seismic quiescence hypothesis using the Z value griding method as well as the recently introduced Seismolap hypothesis of "extended" seismic quiescence. 14. Simulating Earthquake Rupture and Near-Fault Fracture Response
Sammanfattning : Sweden is presently a low seismicity area where most earthquakes are small and pose no serious threat to constructions. For the long-term perspectives of safety assessments of geological repositories for spent nuclear fuel, however, the effects of large earthquakes have to be considered. LÄS MER
15. Earthquake Sources, the Stress Field and Seismic Hazard : A Study in Eritrea and its Surrounding
Sammanfattning : Presented in this thesis are some basic concepts and applications of seismic hazard analysis and the elements that influence the amplitude and geometric attenuation of earthquake ground motion. This thesis centers on the identification of the styles of failure, focal mechanisms, and the state of regional stress in the study area. LÄS MER
