  1. 1. Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields : physiological and psychological aspects

    Författare :Amanda Johansson; Lena Hillert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :electrical hypersensitivity; EHS; mobile phone; MP; heart rate variability; HRV; provocation study; radiofrequency field; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on people with symptoms attributed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by investigating the effects of EMF exposure and by additional description of the heterogeneous group of people reporting EMF-related symptoms. The effect of mobile phone (MP)-like radio frequency (RF) fields on symptoms, autonomic nervous system (ANS) parameters, short-term memory, and reaction time in persons with MP-related symptoms (MP participants) was investigated in a provocation study. 2. 2. Environmental, health and safety assessment of phase-change solvents for post combustion CO2 capture

    Författare :Gulnara Shavalieva; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase-change solvents; carbon capture; CAMD; LCA; EHS;

    Sammanfattning : A novel class of solvents exhibiting liquid-liquid phase separation upon reaction with CO2 and/or change in temperature, promises significant reduction of energy requirement of the post combustion capture by chemical absorption. However, proceeding to a large-scale application of novel materials requires holistic evaluation of the aspects related to human health, safety, and environmental impacts currently missing for phase-change solvent alternatives. 3. 3. Environmental, health, and safety assessment of chemical alternatives during early process design: The role of predictive modeling and streamlined techniques

    Författare :Gulnara Shavalieva; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LCA; EHS; CAMD; acute aquatic toxicity; phase-change solvents; Predictive modeling; carbon capture; knowledge extraction;

    Sammanfattning : Industrial chemicals are important for many aspects of modern life, though they can be harmful to the environment and human health. Environmental or safety concerns identified during the early design and selection of chemicals could motivate choices as to safer alternatives and process setups. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Steam condensation in a water pool and its effect on thermal stratification and mixing

    Författare :Ignacio Gallego-Marcos; Pavel Kudinov; Walter Villanueva; Dominique Bestion; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steam injection; EHS EMS; blowdown pipes; spargers; chugging; oscillatory bubble; CFD; condensation pool; stratification; mixing; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : The Pressure Suppression Pool (PSP) of a Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) is a large heat sink designed to limit the containment pressure by condensing steam released from the primary coolant system. The development of thermal stratification is a safety concern since it leads to higher containment pressures than in completely mixed conditions, and can affect the performance of systems such as the emergency core cooling and containment spray, which the use PSP as a source of water. 5. 5. Structure-function studies of epoxide hydrolases

    Författare :Agata Naworyta; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Epoxides are three-membered cyclic ethers formed in cells via several metabolic pathways. Epoxide hydrolases (EHs) are enzymes that hydrolyse epoxides to the corresponding diols. The main goal of this thesis was to investigate the structures of EHs from the alpha/beta-hydrolase family. LÄS MER
