  1. 1. Office work and physical factors : health aspects of electromagnetic fields and light

    Författare :Monica Sandström; Kjell Hansson Mild; Gunnar Nordberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Facial skin symptoms; office illness; electrical hypersensitivity; physical environment; flicker; jitter; neurophysiological effects;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of the physical environment of office workers with special focus on electromagnetic fields and to address the question of whether electromagnetic fields can directly or indirectly contribute to symptoms or discomfort among video display terminal ( VDT) workers. Furthermore, we have measured light modulation from various commonly used light sources in laboratory conditions and, as a second step, used modulated light as stimulus for provocation of neurophysiological responses in persons with perceived “electrical hypersensitivity” (EHS). 2. 2. Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields : physiological and psychological aspects

    Författare :Amanda Johansson; Lena Hillert; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :electrical hypersensitivity; EHS; mobile phone; MP; heart rate variability; HRV; provocation study; radiofrequency field; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on people with symptoms attributed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by investigating the effects of EMF exposure and by additional description of the heterogeneous group of people reporting EMF-related symptoms. The effect of mobile phone (MP)-like radio frequency (RF) fields on symptoms, autonomic nervous system (ANS) parameters, short-term memory, and reaction time in persons with MP-related symptoms (MP participants) was investigated in a provocation study. 3. 3. Hypersensitivity to electricity : symptoms, risk factors and therapeutic interventions

    Författare :Lena Hillert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Persons reporting nonspecific health complaints attributed to activated electrical equipment have been a growing concern in Sweden in the last decades. The aims of this thesis were to investigate possible risk factors (personal and work-related), symptoms, and complaints associated with reported hypersensitivity to electricity (HE) and to test hypotheses concerning possible biological mechanisms and effective treatments. 4. 4. Interactions with pain-related systems - Towards new electrical treatments for chronic pain

    Författare :Matilde Forni; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; High definition brain stimulation; Periaqueductal gray matter; Pain systems; Pain models;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Persistent intolerable pain is still an unsolved issue with a huge socioeconomic impact. To develop appropriate treatments, it is crucial to understand the complex mechanisms underlying pain and how they change during sustained pain stimuli or during pathological conditions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The role of galanin in chronic pain mechanisms

    Författare :Karin Hygge Blakeman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Galanin; galanin receptor 1; pain; neuropathic pain; transgenic mice; knock-out mice; microdialysis;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of these studies is to further elucidate the role of galanin in pain mechanisms. We have utilized normal and genetically modified animals and a variety of techniques. LÄS MER
