  1. 21. Engineering Yeast Metabolism for Production of Sesquiterpenes

    Författare :Stefan Tippmann; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; affibodies; transcriptomics; isoprenoids; sesquiterpenes; metabolomics; metabolic engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Sesquiterpenes belong to the large and diverse group of isoprenoids, which are ubiquitous in the plant kingdom and have various applications in the chemical industry as fragrances, pharmaceuticals and as substitutes for petroleum-based gasoline, diesel and jet fuels. In this project, production of sesquiterpenes was studied in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using farnesene as an example with the objective to gain new insights into the synthesis of these compounds and to evaluate different metabolic engineering strategies. 2. 22. Engineering Lipid Metabolism for Production of Oleochemicals in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Paulo Teixeira; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oleochemicals; lipid homeostasis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae< i>; lipid metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Oleochemicals are chemicals usually derived from plant oils or animal fat. Large use of plant oil derivatives as replacements for petroleum-derived chemicals brings sustainability issues from extensive cultivation of oil plants in restricted regions. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Improving flavonoid production in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using synthetic biology tools

    Författare :Dany Liu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolic engineering; biosensors; in vivo directed evolution; enzyme scaffolding; yeast;

    Sammanfattning : Flavonoids are plant secondary metabolites and represent one of the largest classes of natural products. Due to their health-beneficial properties, they have found potential applications in foods, beverages, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Currently, their production is based on extraction from plant material. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Importance of insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor and EWS/FLI-1 fusion protein in growth and survival of two different types of neuroectodermal tumor cells

    Författare :Min Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment with comparatively low doses of the 3-hydroxy-3-metylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor lovastatin caused growth arrest in both melanoma cells and Ewing's sarcoma (ES) cells. In melanoma cells growth inhibition was correlated with a drastic decrease in N-linked glycosylation of the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R), which in turn was followed by a decreased expression of IGF-1 binding sites at the cell surface. 5. 25. Cholesterol turnover in acute myelogenous leukemia with special emphasis on regulation of low density lipoprotein receptor expression in leukemic cells

    Författare :Loukas Tatidis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular cholesterol requirements are met by receptor mediated uptake of cholesterol in low density lipoprotein (LDL) particles and/or by endogenous synthesis, the rate limiting enzyme in the synthesis pathway being 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutary coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. Expressions of both the LDL receptor and HMG-CoA reductase genes are normally under end product repression by cellular cholesterol. LÄS MER
