16. Multivariate Aspects of Phylogenetic Comparative Methods
Sammanfattning : his thesis concerns multivariate phylogenetic comparative methods. We investigate two aspects of them. The first is the bias caused by measurement error in regression studies of comparative data. We calculate the formula for the bias and show how to correct for it. LÄS MER
17. Microbotryum violaceum on Silene dioica : understanding traits that influence plant-pathogen interactions
Sammanfattning : The dynamics of a plant-pathogen interaction vary both within and among species. Both spatial structuring and specific genetic and life-history characteristics will affect the interaction and the outcome of a potential co-evolution between the two organisms. LÄS MER
18. Innovating beyond Racial Capitalism: A Contribution towards the Analysis of the Political Economy of Post-Apartheid South Africa
Sammanfattning : This dissertation provides an economic history narrative which analyses the accumulation path underpinning the development of racial capitalism in South Africa. The specific objective of this narrative is to analyse the degree to which the adoption of a national system of innovation (NSI) analytical framework by the first post-apartheid government led to science, technology and innovation (STI) policies and strategies, which were appropriate for the development objectives of the new democratic political economy. 19. Understanding the genetic basis of complex traits
Sammanfattning : Recent advances in genetics and genomics have provided numerous opportunities to study the genetic basis of complex traits. Nevertheless, dissecting the genetic basis of complex traits is still challenged by the complex genetic architecture, in which many genes are involved, and many have small contributions to phenotypic variation, interactions with other genes or environmental factors. 20. Pollination in Ephedra (Gnetales)
Sammanfattning : Pollination, i.e., the transport of male gametophytes to female gametophytes, can occur with biotic or abiotic vectors and is necessary for fertilization and completion of the lifecycle in all seed plants. LÄS MER
