  1. 1. Occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields and chronic diseases

    Författare :Niclas Håkansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Electromagnetic fields; chronic diseases; epidemiology; occupation; cancer diseases; neurodegenerative diseases; cardiovascular diseases.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consider two exposures from the electromagnetic spectrum extremely low-frequency magnetic fields (ELF MF) and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. ELF MF are the lowest and UV radiation ranges among the highest frequencies of non-ionizing radiation. The exposure prevalence of these fields is high in the general population. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Development of proteomic methods for studying cerebrospinal fluid proteins involved in Alzheimer´s disease

    Författare :Maja Puchades; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s disease; cerebrospinal fluid; proteomics; mass spectrometry; biomarkers; synaptic proteins; liquid phase IEF; biomarkers;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in western countries. The main neuropathological findings in the AD brain are senile plaques, neurofibrillary tangles and degeneration of neurons and synapses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bone and Aluminium

    Författare :Hans-Olov Hellström; Karl Michaëlsson; Hans Mallmin; Olle Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Surgery; Aluminium; Osteoporosis; Hip fracture; Osteoporotic fracture; Alzheimer´s dementia; Bone mineral density; Bone mineral content; Mortality risk; Biomechanics; Inductively coupled mass spectrometry; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a major health care problem, by reason of its devastating consequences, in particular hip fractures. Worldwide it has been estimated that the incidence of hip fracture will increase to more than 6 million per year by 2050 compared to 1.7 million per year in 1990. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Somatic mutations in healthy cells and age-associated diseases

    Författare :Hafdis Thorunn Helgadottir; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aging is a complex process that affects all living organisms. As we age, the biological functions are affected, resulting in a decline of the tissue and possibly age-related diseases. Several environmental and genetic factors have been suggested to contribute to aging. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Genetic variation in genes involved in Abeta-degradation in Alzheimer disease

    Författare :Mia Blomqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer disease; SNPs; genotyping; association study; haplotype; linkage disequilibrium; association mapping;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that causes dementia among mainly elderly people and is increasing in prevalence in industrialized societies from 1 to 3 % in 60-65 year-olds to as much as 50 % by age 95. This disease is complex. Multiple genes are involved, and they potentially affect each other. LÄS MER
