11. Vanadate and Peroxovanadate Complexes of Biomedical Relevance : A speciation approach with focus on diabetes
Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is one of the most threatening epidemics of modern times with rapidly increasing incidence. Vanadium and peroxovanadium compounds have been shown to exert insulin–like actions and, in contrast to insulin, are orally applicable. However, problems with side–effects and toxicity remain. 12. Studies of protein structure, dynamics and protein-ligand interactions using NMR spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : In the first part of the thesis, protein-ligand interactions were investigated using the chaperone LcrH, from Yersinia as target protein. The structure of a peptide encompassing the amphipathic domain (residue 278-300) of the protein YopD from Yersinia was determined by NMR in 40% TFE. LÄS MER
13. Mass Transport Properties in Supramolecular Systems Studied by Diffusion and Relaxation NMR
Sammanfattning : This thesis shows how diffusion and relaxation NMR can be applied in various aspects to study mass transport in supramolecular systems. Information about these systems can be obtained, either by direct measurement of the molecules that are incorporated in a supramolecular structure, or via probe molecules, which indirectly gives information about the system. 14. Protein Dynamics Studied by NMR Spin Relaxation. Conformational Transitions of a Calmodulin Mutant
Sammanfattning : Binding of calcium to the protein calmodulin leads to molecular reorganization that enables interaction with target peptides and activation of downstream processes. I have studied the dynamics of the calcium-loaded form of a C-terminal calmodulin mutant (E140Q-Tr2C) using NMR spin relaxation experiments. LÄS MER
15. NMR studies of metabolites and xenobiotics : From time-points to long-term metabolic regulation
Sammanfattning : Chemical species carry information in two dimensions, in their concentrations and their isotopic signatures. The concentrations of metabolites or synthetic compounds describe the composition of a chemical or biological system, while isotopic signatures describe processes in the system by their reaction pathways, regulation, and responses to external stimuli.
