  1. 6. The potential of wetlands for mitigation of eutrophication and brownification

    Författare :Anna Borgström; Akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brownification; Constructed wetlands; Cyanobacteria; Eutrophication; Filamentous algae; Green algae; Macrophytes; Multifunctionality; Nitrogen; Phosphorus; Total organic carbon; Water color;

    Sammanfattning : Increasing nutrient concentrations (eutrophication) and water color due to dissolved organic matter (brownification) pose continuous threats to freshwater ecosystems worldwide, threatening ecosystem services like drinking water supply. Changing the increasing trends of eutrophication and brownification on our aquatic ecosystems is challenging. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Strategy for Monitoring Organic Pollutants in Waste Water with Focus on Improved Sample Preparation

    Författare :Staffan Bergström; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Membrane extraction; Sample preparation; Organic pollutants; Monitoring strategy; Landfill leachate;

    Sammanfattning : Strategy and methodology is presented for the analysis of organic pollutants, with the purpose of evaluating treatment procedures for landfill leachate. Today, many investigations of treatment procedures are focusing on the measurement of water quality parameters such as chemical and biochemical oxygen demand, (COD and BOD), and total organic carbon, (TOC) when assessing the organic compounds in waste waters. 3. 8. Controlling the mobility of organic carbon (OC) ant its impact on metal transport from incineration residues

    Författare :Malin Svensson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Avfallsteknik; Waste Science and Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Incineration residues contain both inorganic and organic material. The organic material may affect the mobility of pollutants in e.g. landfills or geotechnical constructions. LÄS MER

  4. 9. A palaeolimnological study of the anthropogenic impact on dissolved organic carbon in South Swedish lakes

    Författare :Petra Bragée; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DOC; Brownification; Landscape Reconstruction Algorithm; Land-use changes; Lake sediments; Anthropogenic impact;

    Sammanfattning : During the past three decades, increases have been observed in dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations and colour in the surface waters of lakes and rivers in parts of Europe and North America, raising concern about the effects on the quality of aquatic environments with consequences for biodiversity, resource availability and recreational use. Various hypotheses have been put forward to explain the recent increases in DOC concentration and numerous studies have been published linking them to declining anthropogenic atmospherically deposited sulphur. 5. 10. Simulating Transport and Understanding Future Fluxes of Organic Carbon in Rivers Draining into the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Kim Dahlgren Strååt; Emma Undeman; Martyn Futter; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Riverine organic (TOC, Total Organic Carbon) and inorganic (DIC, Dissolved Inorganic Carbon) carbon are the main sources of carbon in the Baltic Sea. While the importance of this contribution has been evaluated, there are currently several gaps in our knowledge of the mechanisms governing organic carbon dynamics in this region, especially for the particulate form, and the impact of future climate change on organic carbon transport.
