1. Iodine Isotopes (129I and 127I) in the Baltic Sea : Tracer applications & environmental impact
Sammanfattning : 129I is a radioactive isotope (T1/2= 15.7 million years) produced through natural and anthropogenic pathways, but the anthropogenic production is presently dominating the Earth’s surface environments. LÄS MER
2. Analysis of the impact of anthropogenic pollution on shallow groundwater in peri-urban Kampala
Sammanfattning : An investigation to assess the anthropogenic pollutant loads, transport and impact on shallow groundwater in one of Kampala’s peri-urban areas (Bwaise III Parish) was undertaken. Bwaise III is a densely populated informal settlement with a high water table (... LÄS MER
3. A palaeolimnological study of the anthropogenic impact on dissolved organic carbon in South Swedish lakes
Sammanfattning : During the past three decades, increases have been observed in dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations and colour in the surface waters of lakes and rivers in parts of Europe and North America, raising concern about the effects on the quality of aquatic environments with consequences for biodiversity, resource availability and recreational use. Various hypotheses have been put forward to explain the recent increases in DOC concentration and numerous studies have been published linking them to declining anthropogenic atmospherically deposited sulphur. 4. The Earth : climate and anthropogenic interactions in a long time perspective
Sammanfattning : The Earth is a highly complex and dynamic system. Life has shaped the entire planet and evolved in response to living conditions. Ecosystems are heavily affected by climate. Rapidly changing conditions imply considerable stress on several species and ecosystems, as well as to the most dominant species on the planet. LÄS MER
5. Anthropogenic impact on predator guilds and ecosystem processes : Apex predator extinctions, land use and climate change
Sammanfattning : Humans affect ecosystems by changing species compositions, landscape and climate. This thesis aims to increase our understanding of anthropogenic effects on mesopredator abundance due to changes in apex predator status, landscape and climate. LÄS MER
