26. Ab initio Interlayer Potentials For Metals and Alloys
Sammanfattning : Many modern materials and material systems are layered. The properties related to layers are connected to interactions between atomic layers. In the present thesis, we introduce the interlayer potential (ILP), a novel model potential which fully describes the interaction between layers. LÄS MER
27. First-principles description of planarfaults in metals and alloys
Sammanfattning : Phase interface and stacking fault are two common planar defects in metallic materials. In the present thesis, the interfacial energy and the generalized stacking fault energy of random alloys are investigated using density functional theory formulated within the exact muffin-tin orbitals (EMTO) method in combination with the coherent-potential approximation (CPA). 28. Defects in Austenitic Steels and Hard Metals - A DFT-based Study
Sammanfattning : Materials are never 100% pure due to the limitation of purification method or manufacturing process. Nor are they perfect, especially under deformation. The present work aims to explore different roles played by the defects in austenitic steels and hard metals. LÄS MER
29. Carbon Effect on Mechanical Properties in Austenitic Steels - A DFT-based Study
Sammanfattning : To study the effect of carbon interstitials in austenitic steels on plastic deformation mechanisms is the main goal of the present thesis. Using first-principlesmethods, the generalized stacking fault energy (GSFE) of C-alloyed γ-Fe is firstcalculated. The GSFE curve includes several prominent stacking fault energiesthat are fundamental for, e. LÄS MER
30. Modelling of Dislocation Bias in FCC Materials
Sammanfattning : Irradiation induced void swelling is problematic for the application of austenitic steels under high dose irradiation. In this thesis, the swelling is characterized by dislocation bias. The dislocation bias is obtained using the finite element method, accounting for fcc copper and nickel under electron irradiation.
