21. Stewardship towards responsible management of pesticides : the case of Ethiopian agriculture
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines pesticide use, practice and associated human health and environmental impacts in the Ethiopian Rift Valley. It uses participatory action research as a philosophy and methodology in order to understand the Ethiopian pesticide delivery system so as to bridge the gap amongst the main actors and create a space for dialogue. 22. Ethanol-mediated effects on astroglial cells in primary culture. With a focus on acute changes in intracellular Ca2+, cell volume, actin filaments, and gap junction coupling
Sammanfattning : The astroglial cells are abundant in the central nervous system (CNS), where they control and regulate the homeostasis of the extracellular milieu. A change in astroglial cell volume, mediated through activation of neuroactive substances or changes in osmolarity, leads to changes in the size and geometry of the extracellular space volume, which could affect the diffusion and concentration of neuroactive substances. 23. Characteristics and functions of thymic exosomes in human and mouse
Sammanfattning : Thymocytes develop in the thymus to become a functional pool of T-cells in the periphery. To achieve this, the thymocytes go through several steps of maturation and selection within the thymus. LÄS MER
24. A Multimodal Approach toward the Biological Categorization of Autism - Development of Theoretical Models, Classification Methods, and Biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an umbrella term for a group of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) which are behaviorally defined by the presence of difficulties with social communication, and behavioral rigidity and repetitiveness, including sensory disturbances. The overarching aim of this thesis was to improve the categorization of autism through the development of a theoretical framework and a multivariable classification method, and identify biomarkers which together would aid in the understanding of autism and be used in ASD classification. 25. New Approaches for Chemical Analysis of Single Cells and Vesicles
Sammanfattning : Exocytosis is the major cell-to-cell communication process in the nervous system, involving the conversion of an electrical signal (e.g. action potential) to a chemical one. Signaling molecules like neurotransmitters, hormones and/or peptides are stored in vesicles inside the cell. LÄS MER
