    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is one of the most common types of cell death. Under physiological conditions, it plays an essential role in removal of damaged and potentially harmful cells. Excessive apoptosis has however been linked to a number of diseases including proteinuric kidney disease and DKD, and is believed to enhance the disease progression. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies on renal progenitor cells and kidney cancer

    Författare :Jennifer Hansson; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Kidney cancer and renal injuries affect millions of people in the world resulting in high patient morbidity and mortality, as well as one of the most extensive medical costs for society. Upon renal injury the kidney has an endogenous ability to repair damaged tubules and restore kidney function, provided that the patient receives adequate supportive care in time. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cellular mechanisms of interaction between uropathogenic Escherichia coli and renal epithelial cells

    Författare :Åsa Laestadius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections will often, particularly in children, lead to renal scar formation or hypoplastic small kidneys post-infectiously. The most common causative agent is uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Salt-inducible kinase 1 : a novel regulator within a cell sodium-sensing network

    Författare :Karin Stenström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Na ; K -ATPase; -adducin; Milan hypertensive and normotensive strain of rats; hypertension; angiotensin II; cardiac hypertrophy; myocyte enhancer factor-2 and nuclear factor of activated T-cells;

    Sammanfattning : Na+, K+-ATPase (NK) is expressed in all animal cells and plays a crucial role in cellular ion homeostasis. The NK activity is tightly regulated by specific signaling networks that must be well controlled in time and space (at the plasma membrane or in the intracellular compartments) to guarantee the specificity of the physiological response. 5. 5. Cytogenetic studies of normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma

    Författare :Peter Elfving; Malmö (Abrahamsson) Urologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytology; Klinisk genetik; Clinical genetics; nonneoplastic kidney tissue; renal cell carcinoma; trisomy 7; Cytogenetics; FISH; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were studied by cytogenetic and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) methods to investigate chromosomal aberrations. In the first study, 4 samples of nonneoplastic kidney tissue were cultured for cytogenetic analysis and trisomy 7 was found in all cases in 3-15% of the cells. LÄS MER
