11. Combinatorics of stable polynomials and correlation inequalities
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains five papers divided into two parts. In the first part, Papers I-IV, we study polynomials within the field of combinatorics. Here we study combinatorial properties as well as the zero distribution of the polynomials in question. The second part consists of Paper V, where we study correlating events in randomly oriented graphs. LÄS MER
12. Externally positive systems : Analysis and control based on combinatorial polynomials
Sammanfattning : Monotonic tracking is required in many control systems, including those that cannot tolerate any overshoots and undershoots in their closed-loop responses. Classical examples are found in vehicle cruise control and liquid tank level control. LÄS MER
13. Reordering in Noncommutative Algebras, Orthogonal Polynomials and Operators
Sammanfattning : The main object studied in this thesis is the multi-parametric family of unital associative complex algebras generated by the element $Q$ and the finite or infinite set $\{S_j\}_{j\in J}$ of elements satisfying the commutation relations $S_jQ=\sigma_j(Q)S_j$, where $\sigma_j$ is a polynomial for all $j\in J$. A concrete representation is given by the operators $Q_x(f)(x)=xf(x)$ and $\alpha_{\sigma_j}(f)(x)=f(\sigma_j(x))$ acting on polynomials or other suitable functions. LÄS MER
14. Multivariable Orthogonal Polynomials as Coupling Coefficients for Lie and Quantum Algebra Representations
Sammanfattning : The main topic of the thesis is the connection between representation theory and special functions. We study matrix elements, coupling coefficient, and recoupling coefficients for the simplest Lie and quantum groups. LÄS MER
15. Tropical aspects of real polynomials and hypergeometric functions
Sammanfattning : The present thesis has three main topics: geometry of coamoebas, hypergeometric functions, and geometry of zeros.First, we study the coamoeba of a Laurent polynomial f in n complex variables. We define a simpler object, which we call the lopsided coamoeba, and associate to the lopsided coamoeba an order map. LÄS MER
