11. The use of molecular markers for identifying species diversity and functional variation of ectomycorrhizal fungi
Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhiza (EM) is a symbiosis between soil living fungi and the roots of woody plants. EM fungal communities are important in forest nutrient cycling, they are species rich and their structures vary between habitats and over time. LÄS MER
12. Phylogenetic relationships and species richness of coprophilous ascomycetes
Sammanfattning : Coprophilous ascomycetes are a diverse group of saprobes, of which many belong to three families, Delitschiaceae, Phaeotrichaceae and Sporormiaceae, within the large order Pleosporales. The natural relationships and circumscription of these families are unclear, especially within the family Sporormiaceae, where the generic delimitation have been questioned. LÄS MER
13. Phylogenetic Relationships, Biogeography and Species Delimitation: A case study on southern African Silene (Caryophyllaceae)
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis was to explore the phylogenetic relationships and historical biogeography of African members of the plant genus Silene (Caryophyllaceae), with special focus on the eight native southern African taxa. Three loci (the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region, and the rps16 and matK regions from the plastid genome) generated using traditional Sanger sequencing were used to infer the phylogenetic positions of African taxa, while sequence data from 28 low copy nuclear loci were generated using the target capture method to explore shallow phylogenetic relationships within southern African taxa. 14. Phylogenetic Studies in Usnea (Parmeliaceae) and Allied Genera
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the phylogeny of the lichen genus Usnea (Parmeliaceae, Ascomycetes). The relationships and the morphological variation among Usnea species has been studied, as well as the relationship of Usnea to allied genera. Two species, U. florida and U. LÄS MER
15. Probabilistic Models for Species Tree Inference and Orthology Analysis
Sammanfattning : A phylogenetic tree is used to model gene evolution and species evolution using molecular sequence data. For artifactual and biological reasons, a gene tree may differ from a species tree, a phenomenon known as gene tree-species tree incongruence. Assuming the presence of one or more evolutionary events, e.g. LÄS MER
