1. Electromagnetic Modeling and Design of Medical Implants and Devices
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers two topics in biomedical electromagnetics: pacemaker lead heating in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and optimization of sensorpositions in magnetic tracking. The electromagnetic part of pacemaker lead heating during MRI is a resonant phenomenon which is complicated by, among other factors, the wide range of length scales involved in the problem. 2. Electromagnetic Modeling and Sensitivity-Based Optimization of Medical Devices
Sammanfattning : Electromagnetics is a fundamental part of biomedical engineering and modern healthcare due to the electromagnetic nature of several important processes in the human body and the interactions of electromagnetic fields with the human body. As a consequence, electromagnetics is exploited for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes by a multitude of medical devices. LÄS MER
3. Health-related quality of life in patients with pacemakers. A descriptive and experimental study
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to describe and evaluate the health-relatedquality of life (HRQoL) of patients with pacemakers, as well as to determine theeffects of a nurse-led intervention regarding health-related quality of life in theform of a self-care program for these patients. Descriptive designs were used todescribe (I) quality of life (n=182) as well as (II) HRQoL (n=697) of pacemakerpatients based on a nursing perspective. LÄS MER
4. Computer-based modeling and simulation in the analysis of cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac pacing
Sammanfattning : Most systems for ECG analysis deal with QRS classification and arrhythmia detection but do not address the problem of finding the underlying mechanism responsible for the manifest arrhythmia. Although it is possible to distinguish among different arrhythmogenic mechanisms on the cellular level, it is far more difficult in the clinic based on ECG recordings. LÄS MER
5. Cardiac memory studies in two human models
Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiac memory is a form of electrical remodeling of the ventricles, where the T vector follows ("remembers') a previously altered QRS vector. On the electrocardiogram (ECG), it presents as T-wave inversions. LÄS MER
